Could the era of daydate begin (or already did)
In the last couple of years Rolex had made more options and changes to the daydate, whether it's 36 or 40. Not thinking it's a hype watch as it never should, but is daydate getting more popularity now that it's reaching to more collectors' mind? I think they don't make as many daydate compare to datejusts and the beloved sports models too.

Day-Date has always been one of the most popular models especially in terms of PM pieces I think it's always been a watch that's on most collectors bucket list

For the older Day Dates 18238 there were plenty different dials available. It is nice to see that Rolex catches up again for the modern versions.
The DD is the ultimate Rolex imho

If some of the funky colours on the 36 were to be added to the DayDate 40-line things would go crazy

The day (lol) Rolex adds a day date with turquoise dial that doesn’t have diamond Roman numerals, or the day they bring back void onyx dials, is when I purchase one instantly.

There have been some truly stunning DD models. I saw a YG turquoise dial that was quite nice.

DayDate has always been iconic but I do wish they bring back the black motif dial in 40mm. That was my favorite.

I think the era of the Day-Date was in the early 80's.

I agree that it’s getting more popular amongst collectors and it’s the dial variety. If the value of a Rolex is mostly in the dial the day date has some of the best dials of any watch…both vintage and modern. I wish they would bring back the stone dials without adornment. The jasper is not mine but the other three are under my roof.

Stone dial DD's are awesome. Do want. Can't afford. Doesn't suit my style and would make me nervous to wear out.
The new Turquoise is dope.

I’m not entirely sure I understand what you mean by the era of the DD but it has always been regarded as the king of Rolex (even if hype pieces usually steal the limelight).
If you’re asking if the DD will suddenly start selling in much higher numbers due to some new dial/metal configurations, I doubt it. Its style doesn’t align with many modern day Rolex fans, it’s price puts it out of reach for many, and some just wouldn’t feel right wearing that much watch due to crime and/or just the general attention it would draw. For those who were previously on the fence though and just waiting for more options to become available, the increase in variety may tempt them more now than before. |

They’re just a whole other level from Rolex, I have had three and settled on this configuration. If I had to sell all my watches bar one, this is the one I’d keep.

Then he told me the price, and I handed it back to him.

When I got my first Rolex Datejust in 1984 the DayDate already had its fans. At least where I lived it was known as the Texas Timex. Those that want them have always existed and Rolex continually tweaks them enough to keep up demand from its target audience.
I personally could never afford/rationalize a $40-60K watch nor does a gold watch fit my lifestyle so I will likely never own one. I do admire the more unusual vintage versions like the Stella dials from the 70’s/80’s. |

I think the era of the Day-Date was mid-1950s to mid-1960s. Then Seiko came along with the Seiko 5 range, with many different models offering a "luxury" day and date function for about $10.
