1229 vs 1226

Pics and opinions are appreciated.
Both 44mm. 1226 is SS / white dial. 1229 is TI / black dial.
I'm a longtime fan of Panerai and have owned numerous references over the years. Was completely obsessed at one point.
The 305 was a favorite for a while back in the day and is 47mm. Also the 389, 233, 422, 372 to name a few.
I tried on the 1229 yesterday and loved the look and feel on my wrist. Still need to try on the 1226.
My collection has been Rolex heavy for a long time and always will be but I wanted to branch out to a different brand for this purchase.
Thanks in advance.

I have owned both and would go with the 1226 for the dial color. The white dial is nice and gives it a different look depending on the straps.

I like how bright and vibrant the white dial is. Need to see it in person.

1229 vs 1226

Hi Travis! Good seeing you back here. :-)

This is a tough one for me. With a submersible, I like the contrast of the black dial against the brushed steel bezel. So, the 1229 seems like the natural choice… but, I’m not fully sold on the blue on the dial. I would have much preferred classic all-white text and seconds hand.

As for the 1226, the white dial is really crisp and beautiful. On rubber straps, it looks great. But, I’m not sure it would fit with old beat up ammo straps. If you plan on keeping it on rubber, then that’s not an issue.

In the end, I think I would go for the cleaner 1226. And keep it on rubber, saving old leather for a second Panerai.

Good luck with your choice!

I appreciate your opinion and feel exactly the same way. I like the contrast of the black / Ti but not sold on the blue lettering. The white looks great but not sure if it will hold my interest long term.
Jorge's 557 looks really cool as well and it would welcome so many great strap options.
And I started looking at Tudor yesterday

I vote for the 1229. I’m biased though, I just picked up a 1226 last week.

The white dial is so versatile.
