Pls help on WW2 Tudor from Canada?
Hello,
I'm completely new, so hope I don't offend any rules ... This vintage Tudor sn 655330 / 817 would date from 1948, when looking at the standard serial number list. However, the story is that this watch is from Canada and worn during WW2, so before 1948. According to some articles on the web, Rolex/Tudor had special watches for Canada (and US?) around WW2. Can anyone please help if this story is true and provide some more info on the serial number? Thanks a lot! Winfried, The Netherlands |

Tudor serial numbers are really tough. That dial looks late forties to me but sorry, I’m not really any help.

The "standard serial number list" is made up for the common Stainless Steel Rolex sport range watches, it doesn't work for Tudor or Cellini, or even precious metal models.
I would say that from the look of the dial then "40's is certainly likely. Look carefully at all of the watchmaker dates inside the case back. Movement experts can closely determine when that particular movement was used.

Both Rolex and Tudor made and sold specific watches for the Commonwealth market including Canada in the 1940s and 1950s.
Apparently many were purchased by servicemen or their families and used in WWII. It is impossible to say with certainty whether your watch saw military service. Personally, I’d say your watch looks more like late 1940s, but that’s just my own guess. Nevertheless, a good vintage find. |
