Black Bay ETA bezel rotating Q...

Hey all wondering if anyone else has run into this. Never had an issues with my SubC, Tudor Sub, Black Bay, or BLNR in the ocean, swimming, in the field, etc. however today the fam and I were at a water park and while in the water the black Bay bezel was smooth all morning timing the wave pool, and then suddenly froze up and would not rotate from the 12 o'clock position... Not hard to rotate or gritty feeling, straight up stuck.. Rinsed and washed with soap and clean water and it's fine now, just thought it was super odd that it was completely stuck just from water park water and not even in the ocean with salt water / sand...Like I said never once had an issue with any of my rotating bezel watches in much harsher conditions...

I recently had this same issue with my BB58 after a week at the beach. Figured the salt water and/or sand was stuck under the bezel. I put a few drops of lubricating oil (that came with my beard trimmer) along the underside of the bezel and that got it moving…

Hasn’t happened to me with my ETA Black Bay but it has happened with my Rolex. If you feel inclined, you can pop the bezel off the Black Bay and inspect yourself and clean if needed. The Black Bay bezel is similar to older 5 digit Rolex and less susceptible to breaking the insert due to being aluminum. Be aware that there are 3 springs (IIRC) under the bezel and you don’t want to lose those. If you don’t feel confident, you could always just bring it to your local Rolex/Tudor watchmaker to inspect

Not many people know this (it's that subtle, though you can set it to 12 with your eyes closed once you know) but the ETA Black Bay bezel locks into place very gently at 12, so maybe it's something to do with that. I'm not sure if later Black Bays have this function, but anyway, mine is 12 years old and no issues.

Same issue happened with by old Black Bay blue 41. For me it was just saltwater and the salt dries up and hardens under the bezel. A nice soaking soapy hot bath did the trick to get it rotating again.

Never had an issue w/ any Tudor rotating bezel, new or vintage.

The same thing happened to my 4 year old Black Bay Burgundy.

I didn't understand what caused it or what happened.

It recently resolved itself on its own, but I am very glad I now have a better understanding.
