114060 vs 124060 comfort
Hello TRF, I am looking to purchase a no date submariner very soon for my next watch.
This is a question mainly directed at people who have tried both the 11 and 12 series subs. Which sub did you find more comfortable? I'm reading conflicting info on the web. I have a pretty small wrist so I do want to preferably buy the one that is more comfortable and wears smaller. Thank you in advance! Cloit. |

Have tried both. Unable to detect any real difference.

For smaller wrists check out the 5 digit subs

Had both. The 12s feel more balanced on my wrist, but I found the 11 bracelet a bit more comfortable. But hardly a difference either way.

Yes, less top heavy, exactly.

You'll find people will likely stress in this thread that the differences are HUGE! The clasp on the 12 ref is MASSIVE and it's DISGUSTINGLY HORRIBLE WHAT THEY DID TO THE 12 REF!!! Ignore them, it's all rubbish, the watches wear 99.9% the same and if you only own one, it won't make a blind bit of difference what you get. |

No difference between the ceramics. If you want a smaller watch, get a 5 series. But I personally prefer the ceramics.

Given a choice, I’d choose the 12, based on the fact that Rolex decided to tweak it. I’m sure they had reasons for the minor changes. Common sense says get the 12 series. I’ve actually tried it on. Here is the 12 series sub date on my 6 1/4 inch wrist, so you should be OK with the size.

I've had both and felt the 11 was more comfortable on my smaller wrist. The 12 looked better but the clasp was just too wide and not as comfortable for me.

What is a small wrist for you?
For example and comparison, L2L is the same on a given 6 digit GMT master II and the 124060 (& while we are at it, 114060). I have them both and apart from the bigger clasp they wear exactly the same on my 6 1/4 flat wrist. And feel the same (TT GMT weighs almost the same like the ND Sub). Example of both: |

I've owned both. The 12 is more tapered and streamlined without the bigger boxier lugs. Both very comfortable but the 12 wears perfect in my opinion and I moved the 11 series once I got the current model.
I have a 6 3/4" wrist for reference. |

Have experience with both. I have a 7 3/8” wrist.
Ignoring the discussion on aesthetics between the two, which has been discussed plenty on here… Comfort wise, they wear pretty similar. However, the clasp on the 12x is very big - just a fact. I prefer the size and wearability of the clasp on the 11x by wide margin - just my opinion.

I owned a 114060 for 7 years and currently have the 124060. I don't find any difference between the 2, both feel comfortable to me.

I own both. I’d say they wear about the same, it mostly comes down to aesthetics.
I do prefer thinner bracelets in general, and the clasp modes wear slightly smaller so that’s where the 11 has the edge IMO. Where the 12 wins out is the overall aesthetic. It’s a toss up really |

As someone who's wore both like others have said no difference imo just depends if you prefer the maxi case or not..... Not sure how those who haven't tried both can give an informed reply.

My wrist is approximately 6.75 and is in between flat and round. I got out of the 12 and back to a 11. It is more comfortable for me, and I find it to sit and look better on my wrist.

I think they all wear the same. It just depends basically on your wrist form, shape or size.

Had both and the wearing experience between the both is very minor.
For me, 12 is more balanced with the wider bracelet and looks better. 11 wears very slightly smaller and (maybe) a tiny bit more comfortable but if so it’s negligible. Next the movements - I’ll leave you to research that…. I now have a 5 digit with after market easy link and find the look and comfort best for me. |

I have the 3 latest series subs, and have worn them all (5 digit, 11 & 12 series). Let me start by adding that in 2011 I added 97200 glidelock clasps to all my 5 digits (can;t stand / wear the tuna can clasp). So, my observatons: (on a 6.75 in wrist)
- I'm used to the 97200 glidelock clasp - and do not really notice the slightly wider (1mm) 12 series glidelock - just not an issue for me - the 5 digit sub is lighter than both, and is slightly noticeable in that regard - but for me, it doesn;t affect comfort as I forget what I'm wearing - the wider 12 series bracelet (21mm vs 20mm) does noticeably stabilize the case better than the 20mm 97200 on the 11 series. For me, the wider 12 series bracelet is more comfortable than the 11 series maxi case on a 97200 20 mm bracelet (better stabilization). Just my personal experience (and 1 of my 12 series is what I wear the majority of the time). But, everyone is different and YMMV. Last edited by georgew; 11 July 2024 at 10:54 AM.. I had a 12 Sub-date and sold for an 11 Sub-date. 12 is uncomfortable to me with the clasp and I always thought the 11 looked better although quite honestly, unless placed together, you can’t tell a difference. And even then, it’s a slight difference, almost imperceptible.
Unfortunately, the 11, especially the Hulk was the last of the great Rolex subs. No compromises. Add in 32xx and…Yikes! Sold 11 Sub on for an SD4k. Best of all (dive) worlds really. |
