Icon19 Inconsistent lume plot size on early Daytonas

Hi everyone,

Could the lume plots on 1960s Daytonas be of different sizes?

Recently saw a 6240 in that condition.

Thank you!

I can't see the photo for comparison purposes. From what I know from a few decades of ownership, lume plots are normally the same size unless they have been re-done, touched-up etc.

Thanks John

That's what I thought. I asked for a pic.The watch is a beauty tho.

The lume of the 3 o'clock is smaller and I don't think they all follow a same size

I wouldn't think twice about that on a 60s watch.

Totally agree. Was curious about it. We all know back in those days they were hand made

More likely it picked up some moisture or shed some lume material. The 7 seems more damaged but even that wouldn't bother me.

I would add that any photo taken through a domed plexi crystal will give one an optical magnified and/or distorted visual appearance of vintage lume plots based on the angle of the camera. Usually being off-axis, the camera often lies.

Vintage Daytona lume-plot size can vary slightly from watch to watch, year to year, but what you’re looking at in the photo is damage to the 3 o’clock plot.

In general, it’s common to see some Daytona plots with tritium loss, especially the 3 and 9, because that’s where the hand-removal tool rests when the watch is serviced.
