Rolex Daytona 116509 white gold w/ silver racing dial?
Seems to demand less of all precious medal variants Daytona. Why? Is it that bad looking? Let me know your thoughts and if you’d own one.

Black dial and the white panda dial were more popular. Overall the 116509 wasn't a great seller--everybody wanted stainless and this was back when PM's were 15+% off all day long.
I had seen online that the silver racing dial can turn purple and in fact saw one in the case circa 2014 or so that had already started changing colors. |

Rolex Daytona 116509 white gold w/ silver racing dial?
I love mine. I’ve got a 116508 PN, 116500 black dial, and a 126500 white dial as well. I honestly reach for the 116509 most of the time!
The white gold doesn’t stand out like yellow gold, but it’s got a nice heft to it. The dial isn’t plain Jane either. Very fun watch to wear. They do run less than the yellow gold versions. People want the flash of yellow gold if they are paying for precious metal. An important point to remember about these racing dial versions is that most of them came out as D or Z serials back around 2005-2007. That makes these watches almost 20 years old now, likely needing a trip to service. That impacts price. Lastly, many of them came with the early 6 digit Daytona clasp featuring a pressure fit clasp, not the current clasp internals even though they look about the same on the outside. I sent mine off for service at the Dallas RSC this summer. It came back looking and working like brand new. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Funny you raise this topic. I have wanted this watch for many, many years. Have only seen one and it was in a display at Wempe with the black and slate on either side. Tried it on that day but was in a hurry, told them I’d come back after lunch. Then when I got back, it was already gone along with the slate one. A few years later I got close to buying the slate (as a consolation) at Harrods. But that one had micro scratches on the bezel which bothered me. Then later I found a NOS white panda racing dial which I bought and also a black racing dial. But still the silver racing dial was my first love and I have still never been able to find a perfect example with the new style clasp.

I have the 116519 with White Dial. It came on a leather strap, which I have since put on a rubber strap.
I love these watches, and wear it often, probably more, or at least as often, as my Black Dial 116500. I saved this from the catalog … Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
