Which GMT Master 2 to choose?

Hi guys,

I'm in the market for the GMT Master 2 and torn between two options.
What would you do in this situation?.

- 16710 Pepsi New Old Stock with full stickers, Serif Bezel, Full-set (Around $15K-16K)
- 126710 Pepsi, Full-set (Around $19K-20K)

These are two different watches with $3K-4K price gap.
I really love both versions, but can't make a decision

I would buy the modern reference.

I think the premium for the NoS is pretty heavy here - a used one would be maybe 2/3 to half of that.

That being said neo vintage is appealing in its own way. If you get hands on with both you will know.

Show me a good condition 16710 Pepsi for 1/2 or even 2/3rds that price - please.

Although they are both BLROs they are two very different watches.

Are you able to try them on to see which one you prefer? They wear completely differently

There's no right or wrong answer.
New 6 digit for me.
Both are fantastic but I prefer the way the modern GMT wears and feels.

Not a fan of any of the ceramic range of Rolex watches so would choose any 16710 very versatile watch get all 3 inserts then 3 different watches for little money.

It’ll be easier to find a 126710 in the future opposed to an NOS 16710.

If only one I’d take the 126710.

It's the classic 62510 jubilee that was offered originally to the 16710.

I was once an early adopter of the super jubilee on my 16710. While being held in hand it felt more substantial but once on the wrist both bracelets feel exactly the same.

Cool, 62510 is what I have as well. Yeah, and I remember you put a T-Fit on your Tudor GMT. Thought maybe you found a way to install a modern Tudor/Rolex bracelet on the 16710 as well :) Super Jubilee is cool as well but hidden clasp is imo a bit too dressy for the 16710.

Choosing a Rolex GMT-Master II depends on your style and preference. The "Pepsi" with its red and blue bezel offers a classic look, while the "Batman" with a black and blue bezel adds a modern touch. For luxury, the "Root Beer" with its gold accents is a standout choice.

For me ….it'd be a matter of what’s in the collection already. If I had all modern, I MIGHT consider the 5 digit, that’s a big maybe , as I love the modern reference on jubilee.
If it were a one and only watch….6 digit for sure.

NOS pricing is reflective of the fact that it has not been worn. If you are going to wear the watch, I would not take the value hit and would look preowned. As far as the choice between the older model and the newer model I would go with the the current model on jubilee. Costs a bit more but to me it is worth it. If you want something that has a vintage look then go with a Tudor Black Bay GMT. Put it on a five link bracelet, leather or NATO. All for around 3k pre-owned. So I would/did the same thing. Modern BLRO and the Tudor. I am pleased with the watches.

So you would get a preowned older watch instead of a NOS super recent watch?

Like 2019 preowned @25500k vs 2023 NOS @28k??

I love the look of the 5 digit GMT's and Subs and have owned a handful of them. But the wearing experience is WAY different than the modern 6 digit references. None of the 5 digit watches I've owned have stuck around very long. On the other hand, I have a slight problem hoarding the 6 digit, they're just so good!

Personally, the 16710 has some drawbacks. The maxidial and hands are on the 126710 and not the 16710. There isn't a AR coating on the date magnifier, so quick glance for my aging eyes is much easier to read both. I also like the bigger crown to set the date and time not to mention it’s a triple lock. Over time it also seems like the 16710 bracelet will stretch more than the 126710 bracelet. The 16710 is also lacking an easylink.

The tuna can clasp on the 16710 is very cheap feeling, again IMHO, so to me, the newer iteration is the way to go. But for you, if you could see them both in person, side by side, the difference would be noticeable at that time making your decision easier, and finite.

I would go for the modern reference. Much better built from the scratch proof and UV resistant bezel down to the sturdier bracelet and clasp. It feels like a more substantial timepiece because it is. It’s a tank of a watch!.

I would buy the NOS 16710 before paying grey market pricing for a model in production.
