Times are a changin'...

Just got offered a 5226G with no purchase history or relationship with the AD. Just a casual inquiry a couple years ago.

The small post launch hype around this model has died rather quickly.

Are you going to get it?

Already picked up one a while back. I just thought it was an interesting data point.

The crazy part is that you registered interest years ago. It would make more sense to prioritize recent asks over customers who asked years ago then never followed up. They must be far down the interest list

The price for the 5226G on even the price-inflated Chrono24 is below retail.

I’m not complaining. It’s a pretty 3 hander.

This is probably true and will be interesting to see how this plays out given state of the watch industry now compared to even two years ago. They've cut their effective customer base by chopping ADs, and for various reasons demand for watches has significantly dropped. But they don't make many watches so perhaps they'll still sell everything they make, but just have to make more calls than they used to.

I’m a fan of this piece. Wears really well in the metal.

The number of people willing to spend $43k for a basic 3 hander is getting smaller

100,000%

Let's be honest it's a nice watch and I like the dial but it's $43k (!!) for a basic non-date no-complication white gold watch on a basic leather strap...

In all other times sans the last 5y it would be a walk in and SAs would be begging you to take it off their hands.

IMO very nice but overpriced by at least $10k and that's prob being kind

These are exactly the people who simultaneously praise a cheap 5711 steel watch to the skies just because they are trading at 2-3 times more on the secondary market. cheap and above all, times are changing! Fortunately, Patek has put an end to such an attitude!

Agreed about pricing, but it seems that any discussion about pricing [for any brand] is a moot point because pricing will never go down, and it’s always a matter of how much higher they will go with each planned price increase.

Unfortunately, two years for a Calatrava doesn't portend of a sea change. But nice pickup!

That watch is $44,300 including sales tax where I live.

This to me is the definition of, "not a good value."

I think it's an interesting dial and I'd certainly enjoy wearing it, but definitely not at that price. IMHO Patek have lost their way on the PM Calatravas. I'm not surprised that they do not fly out the door the day they arrive at the boutique.

I agree but they have been in a tough spot for a while.

Traditional Calatravas didn't sell well anymore despite upsizing them all the way to 39mm. The 5227 has never been a crowd favorite with its huge empty dial.

So they tried to come up with new designs at 40mm or larger. There were the pilot watches many of which are ok at best, then the 5226 which is interesting (but like the pilots not really a Calatrava in my book), and then the 6007 which I find outright silly TBH. Most have been dropping like stones in the secondary market following some mini hype post launch. In between they launched the 6119 which hasn't been everybody's darling either.

What are they gonna do?

"these people" aren't I, but since you always point our that English isn't your first language, maybe it's your reading comprehension.

Certainly not saying that 1. A Nautilus is cheap or 2. Referring to multiple xxxs over retail, I'm simply saying that $43k for a three hand PM on a leather strap before taxes is borderline taking the Mick on how much money you can bilk a client out of for a starter watch to continue the PP "journey"

Plus I'd like to point out that your post holds even less credibility now that TS basically ate crow and created a squaribus watch and raised the price from a more visually appealing 5711 model to also ~$43k.

Why do you think that is? Because they didn't make enough money on it previously? NO, he did it so the entry model Calatravas etc wouldn't look like the exceptionally poor value for money they are... Can't drop prices on dogs, so you have to raise prices on desired models to pretend $43k is still a deal
