Incoming 60 years in the making

To commemorate my 60th Birthday on November 10, my wife told me back in August that she wanted to buy me whatever watch I wanted. I said whatever watch? She replied with “yes, whatever watch.” I went on to explain to her that not only do I have very expensive taste, Rolexes are not something you can just walk in and ask for. She knew this from my fascinating recounts of various posts I have shared with her when she peers over my shoulder seeing me read about a forum member’s latest incoming.

I had shown her the new TT GMT last time we were at our local AD sorting out a jewelry purchase. She said “what about the watch we saw last fine we were at _____Jewelers?” I replied with “for my 60th I was thinking full gold; but I would never feel comfortable with you stepping up all the way for a purchase of that magnitude.

For some context, my wife is an only child. Both of her parents have passed. When her father retired/sold his road construction company, He kept the property and shrewdly negotiated a 99 year mineral rights deal with the purchaser. They send a monthly royalty check for all the limestone gravel they take out of the quarry in any given month. My wife wisely saves and invests a lot of these proceeds as we don’t need them to cover our daily living expenses.

Her father loved me. We rode Harleys all over the country together and he always referred to me as the son he never had. My wife swears he sided with me whenever she and I got into it and would say “don’t you pick on my son in law now.”

So with tears in her eyes, she told me “I’m only paying for half of it my Dad is in for the other half.” We went back and forth about how I wasn’t comfortable with her making such a big purchase, that I have other watches already and maybe we should just settle for the TT GMT and call it a fantastic gift regardless. One of the things I admire/dislike (situationally) about my wife is that stubborn streak of hers . This time, I have got to say I love it. She wasn’t hearing any of it. So without further ado, I have the privilege of sharing my most momentous of incomings, my 126718 GRNR GMT Master II! My wife has blessed me with two beautiful children, 34 years of marriage and now this. Truly a special lady and truly a very lucky man.

Needless to say it hasn’t left my wrist except to sleep and shower. I cannot stop looking at it. Looks great either with dress clothes or a t-shirt.

I don’t want to jinx it saying I may be finished wanting other watches as I know PM Rolexes are a gateway drug to more PM pieces. I guess time will tell. For now I am over the moon.

Huge shoutout to Mark Schneider at David SW. he saved us about $3K vs retail plus 9% sales tax. BNIB with a couple of stickers left intact. Full box, hang tags new style warranty card dated 10/12/24, bezel protector and all the kit. One link removed and it fits perfectly.

Incredible story. Congrats on the pick up! I’m so glad you posted because I had completely forgotten about this piece. As a 126715CHNR owner I just assumed they were “only” making the Everose. This looks great! Enjoy the new weighty addition. And hold onto that wife of yours.

I love stories like this! The old man was a beast at what he did. Amazing wife to pull this off! Congrats! It’s an incredible watch that is extremely comfortable for a full gold one. You’re going to get lots of compliments on this one!

You chose well in my opinion. That combination does go well in all attire - classic gold, black dial, and subtle black bezel.

I did have a little chuckle - you mentioned what a good deal you got.

Used to see friends who got their new sports car and invariably wanted to tell the "why" (got a great deal) when we all knew it was to impress the ladies...

We are impressed!

Did you forget to say how good this was?

Caymus 50th!

Happy Belated Birthday
