My PAM 00512 has a P900/1 manual movement which doesn't hack either. No biggie, it was never intended as to be a precision timing instrument. Luckily it looks great.

New W&W release video… @6 mins Alexander talks about a “new execution” of the P.900 movement. Going forward it will be decorated again and get hacking seconds.

PANERAI should do the right thing and give current owners the opportunity to swap for the new P900 movement.
I know I expected ‘hacking’ seconds on the 1226.

It's crazy that they would do that without saying anything. Especially while selling to a customer base like us. You think they thought we wouldn't notice?

Just bought a PAM 1386 with P.900 movement. Non hacking unless you back the mobement up by holding the minute hand backwards.

Just picked up a new Luminor Quaranta 01372. No hacking seconds with this P.900 movement.

Beautiful watch though! I have last years version(1272) which is the same.
I mentioned in another thread that while frustrating and wrong for the movement to be undecorated, it's mostly academic as 99% of us will never see it anyway. More importantly, after about 3 weeks of ownership, my P.900 based Pam 1272 has kept EXCELLENT time. Personally I prefer that, but we deserve both for what we paid. |

Lately, I’ve been diving into the details of the P.900 movement and movements in general, but finding accurate and reliable information isn’t always straightforward. I’ve come across a few sources, and while I personally think Watchbase is the most comprehensive so far (https://watchbase.com/panerai/caliber/p-900), I’ve also explored:
Watch Wiki: https://www.watch-wiki.net/doku.php?id=panerai_p.9000 WatchWired: https://watchwired.com/caliber/panerai-caliber-p-9000/ What’s your go-to source for technical movement details? Do you think one of these stands out, or is there another resource you rely on? Looking forward to hearing your insights! |

I would also miss the hacking function. With Panerai I prefer their two handers, so I am not affected by it. What I actually detest in this context, is that at this price point, Panerai is using that movement in dials which are two big for the small second and date placement. I cannot comprehend, why the 44mm submersibles are such a success. I look at them and think, dial and movement do not harmonize. A 42mm watch with the corresponding dial is the maximum into which said movement should be placed. Only as of the 47mm models, new, bigger movements are used.
