Calatrava 3923R

Hello gents,

I have the possibility of pulling the trigger on that model of watch that I have eyed for a while and just tried on a few days ago. This 3923 although small really wears well on my wrist so any advice would be welcomed!

I am a bit concerned about the polishing which seems to have been done quite heavily (lugs and patek logo on the crown when I compare to other models of the same ref) but I may be wrong. The watch is priced at USD9,600

Not really being familiar with the model nor the brand, I would really appreciate any input to help me decide.

Really great watch. It wears smaller than the 3796 both being 30.5mm. If you like the size, it has great lines and PP DNA.

The most important thing is whether you will appreciate it in light of its size.

The price is lower than most comparable listings - does it come as a full set?

Thanks!

What makes the 3796 wearing bigger? Only difference that I see is a "smooth bezel"

It doesn't come as full set, only with the original buckle and a new strap.

Here is a (crappy) picture of the watch on my wrist.

Pass. The lugs look too rounded, and in my opinion, the watch looks to petite on your wrist.

Thanks David! Same thoughts about the lugs.

Agree with both points and would stay clear of that specific watch 100%. It is priced low for a reason.

I was in the market for a 3923A years ago but found the 32mm too small for my 6.6 inch wrist. My 34mm 3998P looks small now when I haven't worn it in a while. I don't think I will ever go smaller.

The 3796 mentioned above is smaller than 3923 at 30.5mm but it may look a little larger with its flat bezel. In comparison the 3796 somehow looks as if it has "more" dial which always makes a watch wear large. If you wanted to go larger than 3923 you could consider the 5096 which is an upsized 3796 with a display back but not as large as 5196.

Massive thanks for that!

I have let the watch go and will be looking for something bigger.

I personally thought the size looked good on you.

You want to wear a dress watch and going larger might look like the watch is wearing you.

To each their own

The watch looks fine on your wrist.

I don't see any evidence of polish on the watch. Looks like a very crisp hallmark on the case back. Back side of the lug does have a few marks from the spring bar, so no polish there. The back inside lugs has a very crisp edge, no polish there.

I personally wouldn't go any smaller than the 33.5mm patek watches.

I think that the lugs are quite rounded as well. Here a 2 pictures comparing the one I wanted to buy (bottom) and one currently up for grabs online (up). I can see the difference. Especially how thinner the lugs are.

Down below also a comparison between the engraving of the crown on these watches (same order):

The size on my wrist doesn't really shock me as well and I still do like the watch, but I will try to find a ref 5096 to see how it feels to compare both

The crown wouldn't be much of an issue as it can be replaced but the lugs appear thin in my eyes compared with other 3923 including the 3923A below.
