NY Times writer Robin Swithinbank talks... timepieces.
Well, must say for fans of horology this new video may be worthy of your time. Micro brands to PP, luxury goods sector, design, story telling, and more....

Interesting take on collaborations.
I suppose the necessity for brand relevance is most easily accomplished with art or pop culture collaborations. Am I too much a purist to conclude this as lazy?
Perhaps this is the bridge to cover the delta of luxury/exclusivity over functionally artful craft.

He also discussed rebirth / renewal of classics.... Small micros can take chances and do something daring. Of course there's a lot more discussed, like not taking customers for granted.

It was a decent interview. I wasn't surprised shipments are dampening, prices rising, and customer satisfaction meh.
I don't agree with his comment about CHF float in Forex having a big role. All the ateliers know how to hedge metals, and the salaries don't float just because the employees are paid in CHF. The costs rise due to myriad factors.

Watchmaker hours, and those who build, or polish, or work in service takes time / energy / effort. Plus cost of virtually everything else to operate a company has gone upward.
