Here is an old thread on the topic: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=122595
That said, I can recall several sad threads on various forums where a tourist bought a watch at brick-and-mortar shops in various tourist destinations and only afterwards posted it on the forum, when it was too late to return it. In general, it can be tempting to think it would be fun to buy a watch when on vacation, but you will typically pay a huge premium at a retail storefront in a tourist destination, and the normal advantage of a brick and mortar purchase (no-question returns, warranty, etc.) would be hard to access. Then there is the possibility of being questioned by US Customs (admittedly, this is unlikely). I just don't see much upside in actually buying, but obviously it could be fun to look.

Eleuteri in Venice may have vintage watches but the big destinations are Rome and Milan.
