If someone else already hasn’t said it, best to add. If only room for 1, keep the AP

Have you considered the Casio GW-M5610U?

Don’t do it.
Another vote to keep the AP.

The off-centred date window on the AP drives me crazy! Once you notice it, it’s impossible to ignore. I’d trade it any day for a precious metal Daytona.

Just get rid of the AP first. No rush on a replacement…

Oof, ya. Now that you pointed out the offset date window, that would drive me crazy as well!

For a PM Daytona…yes. Otherwise I’d stay put

I don't think they are in the same league. Compared to that, the Daytona is an overhyped and common mass produced watch. I agree with the others, maybe a switch to a PM but most likely a Platona would be the one that would definitely be an upgrade.

But swapping THIS RO for THIS Daytona, even if you fell in love with it, doesn't seem like a rational move to me.

I traded my 15510ST for a 116515LN and couldn't be happier about it, but SS vs SS I wouldn't have made that trade

Would you do the trade?

Some background:
The AP has always been my favorite watch, and my grail watch since I first saw it in or around 2018. I love the way it looks, feels, and fits my smaller wrist. However, I’ve been disappointed with it recently. The power reserve to be unacceptably low. I get between 24 and 36 hours before it dies. I’ve been frustrated with the lack of hacking seconds and the difficulty in accurately setting the time and then reengaging the crown to screw down. And I have been annoyed with how delicate the watch is resulting in it being hard to wear without thinking/worrying about it. For a $30,000 watch from the “Holy Trinity” of watch makers, I’ve been disappointed and find myself feeling like the AP is just a status symbol piece of jewelry and not a watch I can appreciate from a watchmaking and/or accuracy perspective.

Historically, I never liked the Daytona. It never did anything for me. My father has a two tone Daytona that he bought in 2014 and has worn every day since. I’ve seen many ceramic SS Daytonas and a handful of oyster flex and full PM Daytonas and none of them did anything for me. When the 126500 was released, I loved it from the moment I first saw it. I love the addition of the bezel ring to break up some of the contrast between the white dial and black ceramic bezel. I also love that the bezel ring makes the watch appear/wear slightly smaller. The smaller indices and and subdials were huge wins for me also, making the watch feel perfectly refined but maintaining the it’s sport watch history. All that said, I think the 126500 white dial Daytona is Rolex’s best modern example.

For all those reasons, I’m considering trading my AP for the white dial 126500.

If it helps, I also have a Pepsi on jubilee, a vintage Panerai, and a Cartier dress watch. I like to keep the collection as small as possible, having owned close to 30 watches over the last 3 years.

Although I am not a fan of RO yours is a beautiful piece. I wouldn’t trade it

I’d keep that AP as it is much nicer than the Daytona and I have owned two Daytonas.

Thank you for all your responses! I think I’m going to be sticking with the AP.

Millions of Daytona’s out there, world and his wife already own one whereas the AP Chrono is sublime understated class, stick with the AP.

I always loved the royal oak but my wrist is more round than oval and I could never get a good fit - just not meant to be for me.

I own the daytona 116500 with a black dial and I love it.

30 watches in 3 years is moving quite fast. You move on pretty quickly it seems, and I dont think if you get the daytona it will be any different.

It also sounds like you expected more from the AP despite your complaints being relatively minor:
1- 10% in power reserve (36 hours instead of 40 hours) is not crazy off but you can always get it serviced
2- The hacking seconds is something that a lot of movements actually dont have (from omega speedmasters all the way up to patek and fp journe). Its a design decision whether to include it or not... I dont really see it as a "feature". My speedy does not hack and it is what it is... I set the time just fine.

I would keep that AP if I were in your shoes. I love my daytona but if I could get a nice fit on a royal oak I would have had one by now. The royal oak is a beautiful watch and it looks great on you.

If you’re trading it for a full PM then maybe otherwise no way.
