tudor tiger chrono
hi all,is it unusual to find a tudor tiger chrono with a rolex caseback and not a tudor caseback? as i thought by the time they were making the tigers the casebacks would have been tudor?

I think there were a few early Tigers w/ Rolex casebacks and crowns. Hopefully one of our experts will confirm or deny.

hmmmm. I've heard of some having Rolex casebacks but I've yet to see one,and I run into lots of Tudors. This is very interesting and would like to see a pic of your caseback.

tiger chronos mostly come with tudor crown / tudor case back, but I have seen a few sample in the transition period (s/n around B94 or B95 or so) came with either rolex crown / tudor case back or vice versa.

Some transitional Tudor Tiger models were fitted with both Rolex casebacks and Rolex crowns; however, a few had Rolex casebacks with Tudor crowns and the other way around.

1998 Green Tudor Tiger with Rolex Crown
Hello everyone,
im new to the forums, but I have recently purchased a 1998 Tudor Tiger watch and I had just noticed on the side that it has a rolex crown. Some of you said that very few had this during the transition for that period of time, and Tudor being part of Rolex it makes sense. Here are a few questions I had about this watch; Does the rolex crown make it more rare? What was the original box price on these watches and what is the current going price? I paid $1800US for mine, good deal or bad deal? Their were 6 colours that it came in, I have read that green is the rarest and a little more expensive, is this true? Thanks for your help, and here are some pictures of the watch and the crown |

Welcome to TRF.
Looks like yours is a 79280P. Not too many Rolex crowns on those later references. If original it's relatively rarer. Could be a service replacement? These originally sold for about $1000.00 when new and are no longer produced. Some have found them still for sale at AD's though. Your price sounds reasonable. I don't think the green dial versions are any rarer than any other dial, IMHO. Hope this helps, dP Quote:

Good catch!
As for a rare dial, yours is the painted & as far as I know, the rarest dial is the cotes de geneve which has raised numbers & not painted.

Enjoy your Tiger. As noted, yours is an early model and could have been equipped with the Rolex crown and/or caseback. They're great watches.

Thanks for all the info and posts everyone. I brought my Green Tiger to the only Tudor dealer in town and they verified it as authentic, now getting it appraised. They had one Tudor(No Tiger, brown strap, white dial, non rolex crown) for sale for $3200CDN($2900US). I asked if the pre Tiger was more/less expensive and they told me that the Tigers were more expensive, and harder to find for the 97-98 year, compared to the non Tudor Tigers. Is this true?
