Refinished Dials

Does anyone here know anything about them? I was looking to get one for my 1680 only to have it re-lumed since it was refinished or is re-lumming it a bad idea. I would keep the original dial locked away of course.

Generally a re-fin/lume hurts the value of the reference. Since you plan to keep the original dial any thought to a service replacement luminova dial?

If luminosity is your goal a matt service dial would be cheaper than getting a re-fin and then paying to have it redone again.

It would look like this and glow like crazy.

The dial i bought said it was prof. refinished and I want to relum it instead of my original dial. I just dont know if the refinished dial holds any value or should i not bother reluming it.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're suggesting... You have a vintage watch with an original dial that is no longer luminous? As has already been said, don't re-lume it for any reason. But you want to wear the watch and have it glow in the dark so you've bought a re-finished dial? Frankly I don't understand the need, but since it's your watch: Any 'professionally refinished (your words) replacement dial for the watch should already be luminous. (I don't actually know how someone could re-finish a dial like this and not have the hour markers luminous, what would they use, white paint?) But anyway, since you bought the refinished dial, you already know what it's worth and worst case for having the luminous re-done is losing whatever you paid for it. From a collector's point of view a re-finished dial for a 'modern' watch has very little value.

There is little value to a 'professionally' refinished dial so do to it whatever makes you happy.

Err buddies...refinishing a Dial...is basically reluming hour markers on existing original Dial...
or touch up on lost paint n plots...
WITHOUT stripping the entire surface off...

So when the surface n what's on it...gets to be stripped off...
to bare Dial plate...
n repainted or replotted...to be lookalike...of certain Dial...
is a REDIAL completely...immitation/fake/not original or whatever...

A watch with a Dial that has been REDIAL completely...
has NO soul...n originality....DEAD.
