Franck Muller v Audemars
Hello,
This is my first post for a while and was wondering if we have any Franck Muller aficionados out there? I'm trying to decide between a King Conquistador in SS or an AP Royal Oak in rose gold. I'd love if anyone owning either of these two watches could chip in with any information they may have in terms of reliability, as I'm struggling to find any real information about FM online. |

They are very different watches. Both are great watches.
FM is a relatively new company, formed by a super bright graduate of a watchmaker school, while Audemars has a long history. Buy the one that you like better. |

Wow! Talk about two completely different brands! Unfortunately, FM recently laid off over half of its staff, hit heavily by the downturn. I can only suggest that if you buy an FM, aim for a significant discount. They are very difficult to re-sell. Of course, if you intend to keep it forever, it's a non-issue.
With respect to AP, are you considering the 15300 on a strap, or the 15202 on a bracelet? Best of luck in your search!

AP! Brand history is important to me, and I like the look of the RO, so its AP all the way for me.
Good luck! |

I think I'm leaning to the AP to be honest. It's on a strap, not a bracelet so has a more relaxed look to it. Thanks for the advice!

I have always admired the FM watches. They're a beautiful interpretation and execution of a classic design.
I have seen several on second-hand sites like Portero recently. Good to read that they're dogs on the used market - I'll keep an eye out for some deals. |

At least you could cancel your gym membership with that massive piece.

I would have to go with the AP. FM's seem to have lost all popularity and resale value.

FM are probably the most overpriced watches.
Their first watches, made by the man himself are GREAT and deserve a place in the watch history but the new mass-produced , ETA based pieces are imo way too expensive. You really need a big discount, at least 50%

Go with a Royal Oak Offshore instead.

FM makes nice watches and he is a VERY talented man.
His watches have HORRID resale (at least the basic models, not sure about the high end complications). AP has heritage, history and well is just AP......... AP is among the top 5 (more likely 3) watch companies of all time.

Another thing I really like about AP is it has had a founding family member on the board since the day the company was founded and yes there is still one there!
Other companies have been around longer BUT they have been bought and sold, I can't think of another that has had the founding family involved so long!

The BIG FOUR: AP, Patek, VC, Breguet. Not just my opinion, but a widely accepted one.

You would be hard pressed to find a seasoned collector who would consider Breguet (and in some cases, all of these brands) ahead of Lange & Sohne. Float the question on the Purist or Timezone sites, and see if Breguet is mentioned in the top-4.
