Rolex Explorer panic!!

Hi all, thank heavens I found this forum.

I have a 2007 rolex explorer 2. I got out of the bath the other day and the crown was unscrewed. I have heard it may still be waterproof but is that true? I am not sure what type of crown I have.

Please let me know if you can help

Thanks a million

Paul

Don't panic, you should be safe, but just in case I would take it to a watchmaker to make sure.

Welcome to the forum.

Leo is 100% right.
For peace of mind, take it to a watchmaker to make sure no water got in.

So does that mean I need to send it away to rolex?

How does the crown business work?

Thanks again

No, don't send it away.

Can't you just go to a Rolex AD that has a watchmaker on premises or an independent watchmaker that can open it up and check it for you?

That should be a simple procedure.

Your twin lock watch will be fine even with the crown unscrewed your watch will still have the crown tube seals and high water resistance. And if you did have any water in your watch first signs the crystal would steam up with condensation.

Rolex AD? But if they open it do they not have to re-seal it again?

I just figured it would have to go away as when I had it serviced it went away

I would do nothing - I am sure your watch is fine. If you have damaged it in some way then it will not take long to show and then you can take it in to be repaired

This quote from watchmaker in the watchTech section of the forum:

"While it is always best to keep it screwed down, water resistance does not come from the screw down crowns. It is purely the gaskets. The screw down feature is there as a fail safe, incase you pull the crown out under water.

When water testing with a Witschi ALC2000, perhaps the industry standard dry tester. Watches are tested with the crown unscrewed."

This was discussed regarding leaving a crown unscrewed on a submariner.
