GMT-II - Hard to manually wind

When winding my A-series GMT-II manually, there is major resistance. I can also feel sort of a vibration or pulsing when I wind. I plan on sending the watch in for service, but am just wondering what the causes of this are.

Maybe it needs to be oiled up?
