If you send your watch to RSC for service, can you decline.....

getting it polished??????

Personally, I take great care of my watch. My previous SD4000 I had for 2 full years and narry a scratch on the case or braclet.

I understand that when the case gets polished, it can only be polished 5 times before you need a new case.

I'd likely never be alive to see the 5th polishing, but regardless, is it your option to get everything serviced on your watch but decline on getting the braclet and case polished?

Send it to Bob Ridley. I am sure he would honor your request.

Very good question, buddy.

Yes, you can. "Grooming" a watch is a long and tedious process involving quite a few man hours and will cost extra.

You have the option to opt out of it and have only a regular service done to your Rolex.

I actually prefer light scratches on my tool watches. Makes them look tough. if your RSC insists on polishing it, I would either go the independent route, or an RSC that is not Rolex owned (like SFO).

What's the distinction between an independent and an RSC that's not Rolex owned? Is the latter run by a Rolex AD?

An independent is any one with a Rolex parts account, and their warranty is theirs only, not valid at a RSC. A RSC not owned by Rolex is really an independent but has been trained by Rolex, uses Rolex parts, and does issue a RSC warranty that is good at any RSC in the world.

Yes you can. When I serviced my Sea-dweller a couple of years ago, the staff at the RSC advised me that if they polished the watch, the words engraved on the back ("Original Gas Escape Valve'') might become less legible. So I declined a polishing.

I would never let Rolex polish my watch ever again.

I once had a TT DJ 16233 serviced by RSC at Bexley in the UK.

It came back looking nice and shiny but looking about 10 years older than it actually was.

It had not been sympathetically polished but over polished, all the sharp corners had been knocked off.

AND what's more it never needed polishing in the first place.

Just a soft toothbrush and some liquid soap for me from now on.

Mine has been polished twice by RSC. I think they did a great job. Both times they left my case back alone because I have an autograph lightly engraved on it. I really respect their work.

Spoken by a man that has never had a watch serviced , when they are due just flip them for another one .

Thanks for the tip. Next time, maybe I'll ask them if they can just do a light polish and exclude the back.

What happened to the idea that the client is king and the owner decides what he wants done to his property ? This should be no issue , if there was I would take it somewhere else , there a very good independent watchmakers that can do the same job as good as if not some better and cheaper . I believe we have paid good money for a Rolex and we then should get the service we WANT and not get it imposed ! What if you happened to "love" that scratch ?

Yes you can. Rolex Canada on St. Clair Ave has always been very accomodating to me when getting watches serviced.

You can refuse anything its your watch but can assure you a SD and any other
Rolex will take far more than 5 normal polish services.
