Power reserve replenishment question

Hey all,

Gotta question about how the power reserve is replenished.

Let's say I give the Daytona a good winding and wear it all day. This keeps the reserve fully charged with 48 hours of runtime left, should I leave the watch untouched for a bit.

Say I leave it untouched for 30 hours - I would expect that it would run for another 18 hours before stopping.

My question is: does merely wearing the watch replenish the reserve back to 48 hours or do I need to give her a winding to get it back up there?

One round of virtual beers, on me, to whoever comes up with the most entertaining, while still accurate, answer!

Well, it's supposed to be an AUTOMATIC watch and the Daytona has an amazing PR of 72 hours.

As long as the watch is on your wrist, the semi-circular rotor will do its job. If you are HYPER-ACTIVE in a secluded place doing your thing, the rotor will be performing its job in overdrive!!!

So, as long as you are wearing the watch, the mainspring will be at OPTIMUM tension and the watch will run perfectly.

If you wish to carry out a PR test.......just give the watch around 45 turns of the crown, note the exact time, and set it aside.

Observe 3 days later and you will get an idea of how far your watch can go after a full wind of the mainspring giving it maximum tension.

Cheers - JJ

PS: And next time stop wasting our time with stupid questions!!

The modern Daytona has a 72 hour power reserve..

If you are not active enough during the day, you will not "top off" your power reserve and it will slowly be reduced until, finally, it only has whatever you put in it for the day..

So then, if one is active enough, the reserve will be refilled, so to speak...

Gotcha!

If you want to put it that way, YES!!

With a constant movement of the wrist (which, incidentally, beats any watch winder out there), the mainspring will always be maintained at OPTIMUM tension - the best way to gauge the performance of any automatic watch.

Merely wearing an automatic watch will not do.

You have to merrily wear the watch to get it back up there!
