Cost to upgrade DateJust bezel?

I have a 2005 SS Datejust with the standard steel dome bezel and the silver stick dial- sorry I'm not up on the number. Bought it new at Smart Jewelers in Chicago, its never had anything done to it.

As I've been looking for a watch for my wife, I realize that I would really like to add a WG fluted bezel to my watch.

What would it cost to get changed (ballpark)?

Anyone know where in Chicago/NW Indiana I could look to to get it done?

Thanks,
Aaron

If you want a genuine Rolex part fitted, you will struggle to find anyone who will do it. Rolex don't allow upgrades that move a watch from it's category. Ie, you can't add a gold or diamond bezel to a ss datejust that never had it in the first place.

As for aftermarket parts, my advice is don't get them. People can charge what they want, there is no guarantee it will look right, and Rolex will make you replace it if you ever have it serviced.

Thanks for the welcome safetrends, and thanks for the advice watchmaker!

If adding the bezel means I can't have Rolex service my watch without issues, I'll pass on making the change.

There is no reason why a fluted bezel would not fit on your watch, provided it's one from the same era.. The problem is finding one.

The bezel on your watch is SS and any other bezel is gold, so they are not cheap on the open market, but they can be found. Check around at jewelers who specialize in diamond bezels for Rolex.. They frequently take the old one off when replacing it with the diamonds and many people don't want it back...

You might also drop a note to some of the Grey Dealers who are also Jewelers that replace bezels, such as Alan Furman in Maryland..

There are literally hundreds of thousands of Datejusts around with Diamond and other bezels, and watchmakers who will service them...

It's your watch.

I bought a genuine domed yg bezel for my 116233 from Matt Becker. It's the real deal and my watchmaker changed it in front of me. Like the guy said above. It's my watch.

I paid $500. It was brand new and flawless. I still have the fluted. Side by side is a cool comparison. The Rolex stamp on the bottom of both is pretty neat also. I called Dallas RSC and asked if they would service it knowing the answer already, and the girl said no because the domed bezel affects the water proofing of the watch. What a load. It's all genuine. The only difference between my 116233 with a genuine yg domed bezel and a 116203 is one 3 in the model #. As others have said. It's your watch.

can the bezel be switched easily (like by me at home?) so I can have RSC service my watch in the future or am I done once I get it changed?

I watched my guy use his Bergeon (Rolex) tool and he really had to crank it. It did slightly indent the oyster case, but no biggy. It's difficult to see with the naked eye. You can't pop it off with a knife like the Subs.

I have a datejust 1162233 two tone with a black dial with markers
and a fluted bezel. If I send the watch in to RSC for a maintenance service and ask them to change the fluted bezel to a dome bezel and a black dial with markers to a white dial with roman numberal would they do it?

I read that RSC will not modify the watch if it ended up to be an upgrade but what if my request is not an upgrade but just a change in the look?

Dan

Hi Dan,

I don't know if my pm worked. Matt Becker at Beckertime. Rolex doesn't want any part of bezel switch. Find a good watchmaker. I love the domed, fluted was just too flashy.
