There are manual wind clocks and watches that are well over a hundred years old and still ticking away...

Automatics haven't even been around that long... It wasn't until 1969 that Zenith put the first chronograph that was automatic together... and Rolex chose it a few years later for their first Automatic Daytona.....

A manual wind watch is expected to be wound every day..... ideally the first thing you do in the morning before putting it on..........
