amazing that many peoples view of quality is based on weight and thickness, guess there will be plenty of pickings in the future for the vintage lovers

Doesn't the SD and the GMT II have the same bracelet? If that's the case why is the Sub the only watch taking the punishment?

Have to agree and lets not forget the oyster bracelet in either Oysterlock or fliplock has been in service 50 years. And in that time upon countless millions of Rolex watches far in excess of all the Omegas and all the major Swiss brand put together so a well proven design that have worked very well.

Today, those same attributes are being shunned by the "big and heavy" crowd that no longer buy a watch for a lifetime, but rather whatever is the fashion of the day.. and they move on next week..

To equate how something "feels" to being flimsy and tinny or inferior is just flat out wrong.. The stainless steel channel design of the Rolex clasp is lightweight and uses the bracelet of the watch to increase it's strength when it's latched.. It also has a bulletproof flip-lock, making the watch very hard to come open or break if not intended..

All the screws and pins used are larger than most competitors... From an engineering perspective it is impressive.. Omega is not..it is just pretty.. it's held together by small diameter push pins and the clasp uses fragile wires for closure..

But, it's the end of this era and soon all Rolex models will incorporate the billet look with their own Rolex engineering and satisfy the "heavy" crowd..

The glidelock clasp was a long time coming....but it's head and shoulders above everybody else...
+1 I have a marathon SAR that gets rave reviews for the quality and comfort of it's bracelet. To me it is just heavy, uncomfortable, and unrefined. The Rolex Bracelet on my SD is perfect. The light weight makes me forget I am wearing it, and the quality assures me it's not going anyplace.

Another great old bracelet design is the Omega 1039. SOOO light and comfy. It's thin with spring links and is the complete opposite of ANYTHING offered today. The bracelet on the Speedmaster now is IMO too much for the watch.

I realize I am not in the majority.

i agree with jj the 16610 has stood the test of time and yes it does feel tinny etc when off but feels GREAT and looks GREAT on. omegas are heavier but have rivets not screws in the bracelet and the GMT 11 has solid middle links hence the different feel when not being worn.the sub clasp is simple but very effective .....if it aint bust dont fix it !

What's sad about it? The watch wears beautifully.

How does the SUB 16610 bracelet stand against the Aquaracer 2009 bracelet which is very comfortable, will I maybe fell a "buydown" feeling if I get the LV?
