Polishing A Rolex Case

my 2007 116200 datejust needs a polish to clean out some hair-line- scratches ... nothing deep

question is:

Should I take it to a jewelery or RSC or independent swiss watch repairer or simply watch kiosk in shopping mall

Potentially can polishing cause damages ???

any advise is appreciated

Thanks

Polishing won't cause damage, but over polishing could wear down the case. I would just leave it alone 'til it's due for service and it would be done then.

Just enjoy!

If it's just light, why don't you try Cape Cod?

Those kiosks at the mall are so darn annoying. They are always harassing me and my parents. I just tell my parents to never even look at them when they talk to them.

Agree - you're liable to get your ears pierced while you wait for them to destroy your watch. Take to AD or RSC.

I work at a desk most of the day. Had my new Rolex less then 3 days & noticed scratches on the bottom of my bracelet just below the crown. ouch !!!!! This morning I place a clear piece of scotch tape to prevent having more scratches while at work. Any other suggestions? I am not taking my watch off during work. I paid good money for it & I am wearing it!

I'm a newbee here so if you want to flame me for placing a piece of scotch tape I say go for it.

Just wear it without the tape and yes it will get scratched thats a fact of life of any watch thats worn. But when watch is serviced in a few years it will come back as good as new.Just wear and enjoy your watch over the next few decades in good health. Now thats far more important than worrying over a few daily wear normal surface scratches I can assure you.

I was like you when I first started wearing watches with PCL But neverany tape. It takes some time but you get use to getting the scratches and realize if you use Cape Cod cloths from time to time they come off .Its alway the first few that kill . If you want to get it all scratched up so its starts to blend and not feel any pain just let your wife wear it for 2 weeks. If she is like my wife there will be scratches all over it .

Attached is a picture (no tape) of the scratch. Its just so noticeable on the gold. It doesn't seem to take to much to scratch.

I'll try the Cape Cod cloths as you suggested.

Thanks

Just use the Cape Cod Cloth on the polished surface. Do not use it on the brushed surface as it will make it polished.

If it's fine hairlines on the case sites, try a very small piece of a Cape Cod cloth.

The problem with some watch makers are, they tend to depend on machine too much, which often leads to over polishing. I've seen really good ones, taking their time with 3M sanding sticks and block and going over the more serious area manually then using the machine only for a final buff.

Just leave it be! There will be more scratches coming. Let Rolex polish it when it's service time. You should see the clasp and band of my TT Sub! But, hey it's just character! I won't polish it cause it will just happen again and I don't want to keep removing metal. The expensive band will last much longer if you don't.

The longer you wear the watch, the more scratches you will get....over time these hairline scratches will start to blend in with each other and become less noticeable. Aside from not wearing your watch, scratches are unavoidable! Please take the tape off and let your watch breathe!

Like everyone here as suggested, just let it go. From what I understand, the case is good for like 4 or 5 good quality polishes, any more then that and it starts to look very very worn. Just wait until the 5 year service and get it done then.

If it's light scratching on the high polish area, there is a polishing cloth that is great. It is the Sunshine polishing cloth. That cloth has lasted me about 6 months. Whenever it turns black, I rinse it, and let it air dry. I would highly suggest that brand. I got one free in a jewelry magazine, and I'm going to order a box soon.
