So I woke up this morning and reached for my GMT-IIc and it slipped right out of my hands and fell on the carpeted floor! It looks like it landed on the crown from a height of around three feet. Should I be concerned? Can this damage the crown or the movement inside?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

I doubt it! That watch is a tank, and it landed on carpet. Should be ok, no?

Nice soft carpet or evil hard industrial grade?

Seriously if it's running well then there should be no problem. Rolex builds in a very good shock preventing system...

You should probably immediately put it up for sale on Craigslist.

Jokes aside, keep track of the time. If it's waaay off what it's been keeping, then it may need a regulation. If it's running, then all is probably good.

They're built to withstand some abuse, I wouldn't worry. I have banged my watch accidentally pretty hard & never any damage.

I must dropped My TT GMT2C least dozen times on to the carpet but never onto hard service, no problems.

I once had an Explorer II get knocked off the reailing of a deck and fall 10ft onto a wooden bench. It didn't make a mark on it and it kept the same time as it did before the fall.

I dropped my Submariner 14060M from 3 feet onto a MARBLE bathroom floor.

Huge dent but still kept time as before.

From a height of 3 feet on carpet is not concern but on concrete is enough to jar it off beat.

I am a general contractor that builds upper end homes. I wear my SD everyday on the jobsite. I swing hammers with it, knock it around constantly. I have never had a problem with it not keeping good time. I have to apologize that I laughed at your post when I thought of how I treat my SD and how you were concerned with a three foot fall onto carpet. Dont worry about it. Rolexes are built like tanks. Unscrew the crown, does it feel different? If so, then you may have bent something. If not, you're probably good. :-)

Hopefully nothing should be wrong, Erik (thanks to the soft carpet having absorbed most of the impact)............but you might want to monitor the accuracy and time-keeping over the next couple of days just to be sure.

If you notice any large variations in time-keeping, you would need to take it into your watchmaker.

30 years ago, a fellow freight train engineer was travelling about 50 mph, and struck a pickup on a crossing south of Topeka, KS. The truck wrapped around the front of the engine, and it killed the driver. When they got stopped and climbed down to look at the damage, the crew found the driver's Timex watch in the locomotive's step well, still ticking. So if your watch can't take a fall onto the carpet, you might want to take another look at Timex. Plus they have Indiglo.

Oddly enough, I dropped my O Seamaster from my nightstand, similar height and on to carpet. The second hand actually got bent and was getting caught in the minute hand...sent it back to Omega and they repaired it (still under warranty). I was shocked, because that watch is also supposed to be heavy duty!
Just keep a very close eye on the movement for the next few weeks...

I think it's a bit crazy that we have to worry about something like a 3-4 foot fall onto carpet with these watches or is that standard with any automatic movement?

I've read many threads here where tumbles have thrown the watch out severely, for 5 grand plus a I'd like to think a watch could handle that with ease?

a few years ago, my son threw my DJ over the 2nd floor railing and it landed face down on tile. I picked it up and put it back on and have not given it a second thought until now.

With the crown locked down and falling onto carpet, probably nothing will be amiss. Rolex are quite tough.

I dropped mine in the bathtub soon after I bought it, and it didn't even scratch. Unless your watch starts acting erratically, I wouldn't worry about it.
