The rarest of all: Rolex Moon 6062

Hi there,

I recently joined a virtual museum community that has one of the rarest Rolex on display The Rolex Moon 6062

Somehow I have problems adding photos to this post. What am I doing wrong?

The watch is owned by a collector from Egypt (ashod57) and is in great condition.

Does anybody know how many of these were produced? What is the current price for such a rarity (if you can get hold of one)?

Cheers,
Roger

Most of the moonface watches were made very late 1940s early 1950s all had the Cal 6/740 movement and very small series production very very poor sellers at the time. And now quite rare and very collectable today and would cost telephone number prices. Most were gold but even rarer a few S.Steel, these demand serious money. Last one I seen sold was quite a few years ago it sold then for just over $40000 now well around $100000 and upward for a mint example.

Ref 6062 1950 pyramid dial pictures from ref books.

another very rare model name your price now.

Thanks Padi. I wish they would make a dress watch like the rarer second one. It is very beautiful.

I would love Rolex to introduce a retro line putting back into production some of those old classics like the moonface watch or Jean Claude Kelly Triple Date Chrono.

Knowing Rolex they would probably be more expensive than the originals.

Not a hijack as it is dead.

With Rolex now wanting to only use in-house movements it will limit what they will be able to offer. They did use a Swatch movement once but soon Swatch will only sell movements to those in the Swatch group.

What could Rolex charge for an 18k one of these?

There is one on ebay now from Germany..
It was also in the "Watchout" Forum. One member said this dial is refinish and refurbished. It looks so clean and nearly flawless from the pictures. It will be nice if the seller from Germany would tell the history of this historic watch.
Here is the link below.

Rolex could easily get away with adding a moonphase to the Cellini line. I think it would do well.
