Last week I came across a 16610 (in person) and couldn't tell if it was real. I only got to handle it for a few seconds, not long enough to look at it closely.
I did notice a few things though, which are the reason for my doubts. - It was dirty/grimy and not kept clean, but that could just be the owner - The serial number on the inside of the dial (6 o clock side) was missing, is that normal for older 16610s? - The case back had the green sticker and it said 16610 on it. Did Rolex ever do that? I'm assuming its okay to discuss this in the "watchout" section. Thanks, |

The older Rolex watches did not have any engraving in the rehaut and yes, green stickers were on the casebacks, so on those two accounts nothing to worry about........

Thank you Michael, but it wasn't the green sticker that raised my doubts (I have seen those before) but the "16610" in black lettering on the green sticker.
This replica site for example, has watches with the model number on the green sticker. http://www.removedbymoderator.com.no.fake.links.allowed Or was that also common on older Rolexes? Thanks, Last edited by Welshwatchman; 2 April 2010 at 07:03 AM.. Reason: edit |
