shattered crystal
i dropped my lady datejust and the side of the crystal shattered. i think it must have landed on that part. anyone knows how much it is to have it replaced in malaysia? is it possible to just replace the crystal but not have it serviced as well? has anyone else had their crystals shattered? the watch is about 20 years old

make sure you dont try to clean the watch yourself, that will probably make it worse..
imo you need to have it checked to see if any glass went into the movement

i dropped it from a low height so i don't understand how it can shatter. i thought sapphire isn't supposed to get damaged so easily

Did it shatter or did you just get a big chip out of it?

Sorry to hear that Jen..sppahire is scratch resistant but not smash resistance..you probably better have it replaced and clean to your local jeweler..they might be able to tell you whats the condition of the watch..other than that dont do anything on your watch some bits of crystal might go inside the movement causing it to stop..

My wife dropped hers......
...and this is the result. This was a sapphire cyrstal.
Rolex HK changed it no problem, but they did a full service on it also as tiny fragments can get into the movement thru the date window. Your will be fine....get it done correctly tho.....

They will probably quote you for a full service because they need to check for fragments inside the movement.

if you have a relationship with a local watchmaker, things would probably be much cheaper..

Welcome to TRF !
I would take it to RSC unless you know of a reputable repair service.

Instruction for watchmaker
Jen,
First thing to be inspected by your watchmaker is the crystal on the dial side of your watch is intact, no splinters. If intact the change of the crystal wil be enough. Take no risk when there are several bits of on the dial. Jack |

IMO it's the watchmaker's call as to whether to service or not. My mom's Lady DJ cracked its plexi crystal, and the watchmaker decided to go with a full service which I thought would be prudent since it would ensure that any moisture that may have gotten in would be dealt with.
It would also be wise to stop the movement to make sure you don't scratch he dial. Good luck.

I knocked a chunk out of a crystal once.. The watchmaker at the AD insisted on a service to check the jewels, pivots, and balance (from shock), and also to ensure some tiny fragment didn't get into the wheels and gears...
Even the smallest fragment inside the works can destroy the movement...
