Could they change my black GMT bezel insert to a Pepsi?

All,
My GMT-II is in the shop at Dallas RSC for it's first 5 year service, and I was wondering, since they told me they change out the bezel insert as part of the service, could they put on a Pepsi one instead if I asked, or will only just put another black one on?? Do they have a rule about that?

Which brings up another question, when the new GMTs start to go in for their 5-7 year service, will they swap out the ceramic bezel as part of the service? I guess I doubt it due to cost. Do they change out the bezel insert in Yacht Masters during service?

Why don't you ask the Dalla RSC if they will change the insert for you.....they should.....

As for the ceramic in a 16710, the two watch cases are machined differently and it cannot be done...

Yachtmaster inserts are platinum and expensive...they usually refinish them, but they could replace it for quite a bit more than the basic aluminum ones...

That would be better than the black, the Pepsi, but i do not know if any RSC would do it or would it have to be done at Rolex themselves. Someone pointed out and i dont know if its true, and that is, somehow maybe by serial number you can tell if the GMT was originaly a Pepsi bezel or a black or a coke version, and that is why you have to keep the original bezel if it comes time to sell. Maybe someone can confirm this and tell me how you can check what the original colour bezel should be ?

The bezel insert on a gmt2 is quite inexpensive 50 ish dollars and so routinely changed at service, if scratched or marked. ( in the uk AD's will willingly swap them between pepsi coke and black, I have pepsi and black for mine) .. But I believe in the US they won't do it.. You can however buy an insert and have it changed independently.

The ceramic inserts should be alot more scratch proof, and the yachtmasters can be polished so neither would need to be changed, and if they did would be considerably more expensive.

I have been in 3 ads (not a RSC I know) and tried to swap out my coke for an all black. All three told me NO!

Buy an insert & swap it yourself, nothing to it.

How about you?

You could do it! I have faith. It isn't hard! Only cost you a bezel.

Agreed. It's a five minute job.

Some send their GMT in without the insert at each service. Then there's not chance of Rolex keeping the old one and a new one is fitted for around £37.

Next time pop the insert out before sending it to the RSC

that way you'll have 2 inserts.

Any of the RSC will change the insert at customer's request, but they will keep the old insert.

I thought about that, but I think I am going to leave it in the hands of the pros. I found a place downtown that said they will do it with authentic parts and for a fair price. Plus, I need a new "click" spring for the bezel.

I had mine swapped from "Coke" to "Pepsi" at RSC Los Angeles (Sept, 2004) and they did allow to keep my "Coke" unit, for a few dollars more. Sadly, RSC Los Angeles doesn't exist any longer.

I called Dallas, they said they would let me know Monday if they can, I said I'd like the Pepsi one. We'll see.

My AD are doing the same job for me on monday. It's a quick job. They had a black bezel in stock for my GMT II.

My watchmaker will change them for free while I wait. Each insert gives the GMT a distinct personality.

I spoke to the Dallas RSC yesterday. According to the girl I spoke to, if you take in a GMT that is all authentic, then they will swap inserts for you. Also, according to her, prior to the M series, there was virtually no way to tell which insert the watch came with. This is in line with what another Rolex repair facility told me too.

Rolex USA seems so frustrating.

Our friends across the pond seem to have more choices and freedom.

when you write, 'which insert', do you mean the specific insert or the general color of the insert? if you mean which color, how could they not know? i thought from the serial, rolex could infer the style code, which consists the bezel color.

Rolex in London does it for free, while you wait. £22,95 + VAT, doesn't get much better than that.
