is this a fair trade?
hey all,
i really dig the 5508 rolex sub and have been thinking about getting one.. I wanted to know if trading my SS daytona black dial V serial for an even trade for a 5508, fair condition original gilt dial and hands, but it does need some work and a service. I really love this watch but i don't know if i should hold on to by daytona or do the trade? when it comes to vintage, im kinda new to it, so im unsure if this would be a fair trade. i know what to look for as far as service dials or relume ect.. any input would be great. |

I believe 5508s are going upward of $10K.
See if you can get some $$$ on your side for a "solid" service, and you may have a winner! |

well the one i had picked out does not have a bracelet, but i dont know if i will go for the deal. it's actually this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Vintage-No...item1c106abb67 the seller agreed to do an even trade for just the head. but i think it would be a fair trade with a bracelet no? |

if it had a bracelet and was in good condition i would be happy with an even trade. but i just dont know where to find one.. i contacted steve M to see if he can find anything for me. he said he was going to look at a 5508 nice condition with a service dial this morning. we will see what he says when he gets back to me

I agree with JJ, keep the known entity with your SS Daytona then take a chance on an Ebay watch!!!

I'll respectfully take the other side and say that a collectible vintage rarity always takes priority over a common currently produced model IMO. Remember the total population of SS Daytona's goes up every week and there will likely be tens of thousands more produced in the coming years.

IMO a 5508 will only go up in value while a modern Daytona is still being produced in huge numbers everyday. The lack of a bracelet is a dealbreaker, though.

5508
Though the 5508 is an icon I would never trade my new watch over it.
There's too much uncertainity in such a vintage watch > spare parts and service. Also the bracelet is a step back. You cannot wear a 5508 as a daily beater, the Daytona is designed to be. Why not have a look for a last series 55XX ? They're cheaper and more suitable for daily wear. Jack |

5508? i would do it, you can source the bracelet sometime in the future, the 5508 are seemingly becoming harder and harder to find... Daytonas on the otherhand..

Breach of eBay policy right here, or???
From auction: "For US buyers, a Paypal deposit payment of $1,000.00 USD must be made within one day of winning bid and the remaining balance must be made within 3 days of winning bid via bank wire transfer only." Paypal is accepted as a form of payment, but seller only accepts 1000 bucks trought paypal? Rest wire? Or do I misunderstand?

Vintage IMHO is always better than modern.
That being said though I would NOT trade your daytona for that particular 5508, no way. Too many things going on with that watch for me. Keep your daytona, and wait for another to show up. Steve usually comes up with some nice vintage stuff. Jeff |

I would hold off on this one. Why not wait and see what Steve comes up with?
There is too much unknown about this one and the fact that there is no bracelet really does not make this a fair even trade IMHO.
