My friend and I just bought 4 new Rolex's in the past 45 days, none of them were DateJust's. Where do we stand?

Viewing life through our own glasses

It's the DJ, hands down.

People with WIS leanings who gather at sites and forums like this tend to gravitate towards the professional or sport models, or perhaps the vintage models of that same type. We question, discuss, debate and respectfully argue over such things as relative merits of TT or SS subs, functionality of Daytona's, strength of SEL bracelets, ceramic bezels and why the Yachtmaster TT has a SS rather than gold crown.

But, in the parallel universe known as the real world, where most watch and Rolex buyers just 'want a good watch', the Datejust is the model of choice. Sure, the buyers will give some thought to what to buy based on Dial and Metal and Bracelet choices available right then at the AD, but to the vast majority of world wide buyers, the look, feel and branding of a Datejust just says everything they need to know about Rolex.

We watchheads who regularly reset the time to the second, buff and gently polish our timekeeping beauty's, spend hours upon waking hours at Rolex web sites, track every little change in the Rolex.com web site, discuss ad nausium whether it's OK to wear a NATO strap, drool over AD displays, surf the gray dealer web sites...and so on....we're the minority of Rolex owners and buyers. And, that's why it's the Datejust.

Positively and definitely the TT DJ on Jubilee with champagne dial.

Personally, I don't much care for this particular model, but facts are facts. Go anywhere in Asia, places like India, or even visit the Fat East like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, China and you see mostly this model in all sizes.

Even the 31 mm so called mid-size is extremely popular amongst the smaller-boned Asians.

Been there, seen that!!
