Used Explorer II P Serial - What is it worth?

Hey all - I couldn't help but start searching local for used Explorer 2s while I am also searching at ADs for a new one.

My question: What is a P Serial (in good shape) worth?

I assume I would send it in for the 550 service as soon as I got it.... And also besides the engraved rehaut, and the 3186 movement. What does the P lack compared to the new model? Is the bracelet the same, or different? Does the P have SELs?

Well, in addition to the changes you mentioned, a P would have the lugholes case which is good or bad, depending on your preference.

How are the lug holes case a good or a bad thing (just wondering)? I thought it was just personal preference.

The p serial should have sel & lug holes... Really there are no other significant differences. A great watch... Get it serviced and wear it in good health!

I think that 2000 (P) was the first year for the SEL 78790A SEL bracelet that all new EXP II's have.. So, you get the best of both worlds.. SEL's and a holes case The Exp II was also available with a 93150 and 501 endlinks too.

It will not have an etched crystal or engraved rehaut, but it doesn't "lack" anything that a new one will have..

Thats 3750... I could get a new for 4800 or so... so I would save 1k...

I'm not sure that I follow you.......... 3,200 is an excellent price for a P Exp II in good condition... Service is your choice and you shouldn't expect any seller to reduce his price by that amount...

Are you saying that if you buy it, then service it, you will have a like new watch for 1k less than a new one...

If so, then I think that it is a good way to go. 1) you rescue an older watch, and 2) you have some investment in the service so it is more "yours" than one out of a display case..

Yes exactly. I am saying with a service I could have it for 1k less than a new one.

However that 1k to me isnt enough to make it worth it. What if the watch is stolen, what if the band or something else inside the watch is fake. What if it breaks tomorrow? Keep in mind, that watch is ten years old! To me 1k isnt enough 'savings' compared to the recourse you would otherwise have with a b&m purchase. I dont know, call me crazy, but I would rather pay and rest assured.

In reading your question, I make the following assumptions.... 1. You are purchasing the used watch from an AD, and 2. He is providing or including a full service.. The total price is $3750. If that is correct....IMO....go for it.
