Well i think i have become a sub traitor.....help!!
So today I sent my sub date back to my dealer and i have a minty white dial explorer 2 on the way. Let me explain. I have a TT gmt2c. Obviously a black dial sports watch. I bought a sub date 6 months ago and i like it but...that thread about the exp 2 just kept haunting me. so i spotted one in the wild saturday nite. White dialed and awesome. I travel alot so i thought the 24hr hand would be handy. I am a diver but i never go more than 50 feet or so so the sub isnt really serving its true purpose. Also everywhere i go i see a sub or a sub look alike. I thought since I have a black dialed gmt, then a white dial sports watch would be a nice change. SOOOOO my question WOULD YOU SWAP THE ICONIC SUB FOR THE ICONIC EXP 2??? I am still torn even though the deal is basically done. make me feel good about this!!!!

Yes, yes I would. It's all about what appeals to YOU, not about what somebody else calls a classic.

I wouldn't trade one for the other, which is why I ended up with both.
Have to agree with Bill. Just thinking of trading your Sub can get you banned.

Subs are always in demand...but it seems like only WIS enjoy the EXP II!
Not sure how that really helps your situation, but it seems like there are more subs out there so it'd be easier to acquire one later on [though generally speaking the 16610 is usually priced above the EXP II, so maybe not such a good deal financially?] |

hmmm....
well i think i just want a white dial that is a little more of a rare bird? i wanted SS daytona but it has no date and i need that. do you guys think that the expy 2 is generally a great watch....the only dif is the twinlock crown and the depth rating right???....i never understood why it was less expensive than the sub. one would think that a watch with a complication would be more expensive...how much more list is the sub over the expy 2 anyway????

As much as I like the Exp II, I would not trade a Sub Date for it.
As long as you're happy though. |

Ditto...I would keep the Sub and get the EXP2 whenever possible
You might miss the Sub too much once it is gone.

The Exp II was my first Rolex and it remains one of my absolute favorites! My LV Sub came many years later and the Exp II hasn't lost any of its appeal to me since getting the LV.

Yes - I would, and not just because of the white factor.
Have had a Sub date and non date, and these have both gone. I still have both white and black dial ExpII. I prefer them - I feel they wear better. I have to admit that for the 'diver' look/moving bezel, I still have an SD and a few GMTs. IMO the Subs are overhyped. he 14060 still has rattly end links and the 16610 has a deeper rehaut, which for me makes it look a tad cheaper than any of the other sports Rolexes - I'm sure most won't have a clue what I'm referring to, but it's what I found. I always saw it as iconic, and then when I had one preferred wearing other watches - kept it for three years but eventually flipped it. |

It's entirely down to personal preference. The one that 'sings' to you most is the right one for you. Everyone's different !

A polar Expy is next up on my list. I wish I had gone w/ white instead of black the first time around. Having all black-dialed watches is a bit depressing, I need a little lightness to brighten the mood.

Well i got my polar exp2....................AND I LOVE IT. Dont get me wrong i loved the submariner but i guess because i have the gmt2c i really like the contrast of the polar. Its light crisp and its keeping GREAT time! I have to say as a daily wearer it is my favorite all around rolex. Unlike what most people have said here, people have been askin me everywhere i go about this watch. I guess its because they are less popular than the other sport models. I have a question, i do have a little nick in the crystal. is there anyone on this site that can replace a crystal with an authentic rolex crystal with the etched coronet???? I have to say anyone who has toyed with the idea of getting one of these beauties GO FOR IT!!!

100% Understand your decision and think it's a wise one. I started with a Sub but traded it within a year for the GMT IIc but aquired the blanc EXP II inbetween....having experienced various other watches I have come just about full circle and know that my EXP are right for me and will probably stay for life.
Enjoy your blanc dial it's a stunner and great to wear . |

Once I went black, I never went back.
HOWEVER, as whites go, the EXP2 almost made me switch. I really like the black surround on the plots. Beautiful watch. |

Had my Exp II (back dial) since last Friday and it hasn't come off my wrist as yet! Mind you, my other Rolex is a Sub - and that's a keeper for me. |
