Lug Holes Vs None
I have been looking for a Lug Holed Explorer II Black Dial for a while now and it seems that there are few on the market that come up for sale. What are your thoughts as to giving up my search and just getting a newer model?
Those of you that have them, is the ease of changing the bracelet to a NATO or whatever else and the security of it having a little longer bars worth it to you?

I just like the lug holes........& for me it does make removing strap/bracelet easier.

i've had both types of cases, and i haven't really cared when i keep it on the bracelet for a long time. not having the lugs drilled through does look cleaner, but the spring bars are not as robust as is the case with properly seated springbars on lug hole cases.
and if you are one who will constantly change bracelets/straps, then go for the lug holes. still, how often do you hear of spring bars failing? not saying it doesn't happen, but i doubt it is very often. |

Having had both, I'm not really particular with regards to lug holes vs none. Objectively, IMHO the holes make it look tougher and more of a tool watch than the smooth sides.
However, what really matters to me in terms of comfort are the SELs. Good luck on your search. They're out there.

Thanks for the well wished in my search guys. I will keep looking for a little while to get one with lugs.
When did the bracelets start having the SEL's?

It was around 2000 the change in the Rolex sport line to the SEL (Solid-End-Link) bracelets. But the SD has had the SEL since its first retail introduction, its only the non date sub that still has the non SEL.

Gotta say that I prefer the look of non-lug holes. A solid case just looks more sharp and seems to represent a higher notch of quality as most other SS sport brands seem to have lug holes. Having said all that I don't really notice the lug holes on other EXP II in the wild unless I get a good look at the watch and those watches still look cool.....
