1680 decisions decisions

Hi,

First post but have enjoyed lurking here. Great site-nice people.

I bought a pre-owned 1979 1680 Sub in 1984 in Hong Kong for $400, and it's gone up quite a bit. It now needs another 5-year service, and is a 7 out of 10.

My dilemma is I could sell this and just about get datejust two tones for my wife and I, which we could later pass on to our 2 kids. However, I like that my plain old Sub has gone up so much. The datejusts were almost $800 when I bought the Sub. I really like my watch but I also like two tone datejusts.

Are datejusts not as good an investment as my Sub? Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you,
John

In general its the sports Rolex thats always got the collectivity plus the premium prices my advice keep the sub.Have it serviced but insist they leave dial hands as original and only a gentle polish to the case&bracelet.

The market is a bit depressed at the moment relative to where it has been. IMO, if you don't have to convert it now, don't.

Spot on. Collectability favors the 1680 plus the fact you have a great daily wear watch with so much history.

I would keep the 1680. SS + Sport watch = collectible.

It would be easier to save up for TT DJs than to sell a coveted watch with so many memories. There aren't too many first owner Subs going around.

BTW Welcome to TRF!
