Trade PAM for GMT2 at AD?

I bought a Panerai Luminor Marina logo (005) at an AD one year ago. I don't wear it much, I find it to be too big and it doesn't fit under my sleeve with long sleeves( I know, no surprise).

The AD where I bought it is also a Rolex AD. I wouldn't mind a GMT2. If I propose a trade, do you think they would "play fair" and make a decent offer or rip my lungs out on both ends of the deal? I realize that the GMT is more costly and I would have to put money into the deal.

I am comfortable with an AD to avoid the drama of a private deal, which I have never done.

Forgive me if I transgressed any forum rules, I am relatively new here.

AD's will never lose $ on a deal, whether its a purchase or a trade. They'll offer you wholesale (sometimes worse) for your PAM.
I suggest you stick around, bring up your posts, then sell it here in the forum. You probably have a better shot at keeping your lungs in tact.

Welcome.

+ 1 on Joe's comments. Trade ins at ADs are losing propositions. You'll need to sell it yourself if you want to max your income.

That said, it's tough to sell on line if you don't have a rep. Do you know anyone you can sell it to directly?

+1 on Bill and Joe. Selling will always be a better option if you are patient. ADs are in it to make money on each transaction.

Another alternative is to trade with a member who is selling a watch you like. Just make sure you do your due diligence in checking that member's creds. This is exactly what happened to me earlier this year when I traded my rootbeer with TempoKing's Dweller.

Good luck.

I am with Joe, Bill and Jib--can't win trading with an AD--sell on your own!

IMHO..........

Like others have said..............spend some time here on TRF, bring up your post count and learn of the sellers here. I can assure you that you will get a much better deal selling your Panerai here on this forum and then buying a Rolex from one of the power sellers here. There are no worries with "drama of a private deal" here as long as you are dealing with one of the power sellers.

If money is no issue, go and trade with the AD and take it on the chin. It will definitely cost you a couple thousand more.

I was told by several AD's that the only watch accepted in trade for a Rolex is a another Rolex. They claim that this comes straight from Rolex. On the other hand, AD's have been known to break many rules. But I agree with many others- you will lose money on the deal. Try to sell it privately on one of the many watch sites. I believe you will need aditional posts before you can sell it on tis site. Good luck and welcome.

maybe contact some of the good sellers here on TRF and see if they will sell your watch for you, they will prbably keep a percentage for selling it but it will end up being better than what the AD will give you.
