Movado Automatic Quartz Movement?

Forgive me if I'm missing something here, but I have a Movado that I haven't worn in a long time, probably around 2 years. Well, I pulled it out yesterday, and it had stopped. I think it stopped sometime ago. I turned the knob a bit, shook it a bit, and set the time. Low and behold, today it is still on time! When I hold it to my ear, I hear a tick every 5 seconds.

The problem is that at the bottom of the dial it says "Swiss Movado Quartz". My understanding is that quartz movements are electronic and require batteries.

Any thoughts - I'm dumbfounded!

Its just quartz, not automatic. I have seen quartz watches stopped and after a quick reset keeps on going for a bit more. Chances are the battery is so weak that at a certain spot it just stopped, resetting the time is kinda like pushing start a car and give it its last breath before it finally stop for good.

Just go and change the battery instead of letting it wear the gears out.

Agreed - definitely needs a new battery, preferably a Lithium one.

Makes sense. I'll get a new battery.
