New Sub
I am new to the forum and have enjoyed reading some of the conversation on this site. I am looking at purchasing a 16610 sub to go along with my stainless and gold datejust. I have been looking at new watches, what is the deal people are talking about the randum serial numbers on the last of the non-ceramic? I just thought a V in the number indicated a newer model.

Welcome to TRF!
Until 2010, for many years Rolex have been using a serial numbering system for their watch cases that begin with a letter followed by six numerals. Folks in the watch world use these to loosely determine when a watch was made. There are many threads here and on other web sites listing these, just search and you will find a huge amount of material on the subject. The new serials look more like a car's vehicle identification number to me. Intermixed letters and numbers. Then again, 16610 Subs have appeared using the new system. The latest Submariner, the 116610, is a redesign of the case, dial and bezel with a new clasp as well. The new bezel uses a ceramic insert instead of aluminum, the material used since the Sub's inception in 1953. This place is a wonderful place to learn. Simply keep asking, and search the resources and you will be astounded! The folks here are first rate! Here is a link to the section I was referring to: http://www.rolexforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22 Enjoy your stay!

Welcome to the Forum -- V is the serial used just before the new random numbers. The randoms are the last of the 16610's

You may find some of the TRF sellers in the mid to upper $5k range, which would equate to 5 - 10% off, but the supply is not abundant. |
