Injured Red Tailed Hawk Brought to the ER (Photos)

One of my ER MD partners found an injured Red Tailed hawk on the way to work last evening. Coincidentally, the doc has worked extensively with the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota. (Lucky hawk!) He captured the hawk, placed it in a dog kennel which he happened to keep in his truck and brought the hawk to work for the night for observation.

Today, Dr. Martin and his son are driving the hawk 210 miles down to Minneapolis to the Raptor Center, where it will be treated for its injuries and hopefully recover under expert veterinary care. Here are some photos of the hawk from this morning.

What a great person Dr. Martin and his son are.

Will he do the same for a human that doesn't have insurance and can't afford the hospital fees?

Hell no! The bird didn't mouth off or try to scam us for narcotics. It was the most pleasant patient all night.

The pro photographer's photos aren't available yet. I had my Nikon all evening, but I only have one pic with me in it so far. Here I am having a cigar with some good friends outside the reception.
