GMT bezel insert fading?

I noticed a lot of the bezel fades --why ? bad paint by rolex or UV light?
Ways to prevent it?

The ceramics should be alot more resistant to fading.

Longterm exposure to the elements. Red is always the first to fade. Btw, many vintage fans love and value the fading effect.

the early inserts are anodized aluminum...

The only way to avoid fading is to stay indoors all the time and wear long sleeved shirts...........

I think it's terrifically amusing how collectors and fan boys like we all here on TRF find fading / yellowing (Patina-ing) hardware products appealing

When I took my T series 16700 GMT Master in for it's first 5 year service, the pepsi bezel was severely faded. The red was much more pink and the AD seemed quite surprised it was so drastic. Unfortunately, I wasn't very keen on "vingtage looking" pieces at the time and had the insert replaced. Looking back I sure wish I had kept the insert original - not to mention not selling the watch 2 years ago.

The best part of the RSC service on my GMTII Pepsi was the new insert.

I didn't like the faded look. Now I'm afraid to wear it outside. I don't want it to fade again.

So fading is normal? I bought on EBAY. And while Im certain the case and bracelet are authentic, was a little suspect about the bezel.

Just buy an extrsa bezel insert. Otherwise, RSC will change it out when it's service time.

The fading aluminum bezels are completely normal. The ceramic bezels, however, won't fade at all. You could bake it in the sun for 30 years and it shouldn't fade.
