Icon5 Change the crystal?

So I somehow got a scratch on my cyclops that is driving me crazy and am thinking about getting a replacement crystal from RSC. My only question is, are there any negatives to getting a replacement crystal? For example, on the vintage market, is a replacement crystal frowned upon (like a replacement dial/hands are)? Will my new crystal come with the etched crown with the "s" at the bottom? Also, will RSC let me keep my original crystal if I ask? Thanks for the info!!!

Well first it would help if you tell us if its a sapphire or Acrylic crystal. With Acrylic crystals they are changed at every routine service. If its a sapphire the cyclops is only stuck on the main crystal, and if its replaced it will have the S on the LEC.And crystals are often changed in the life of a watch,in vintage watches the most important parts are the dial. Then the hands and if a sports watch the original insert may be a plus in some watches. But in the life of a vintage watch hands and bezel inserts get changed. Most collectors today would like a all original watch but the dial is the most important part.Things like crystals as long as they are replaced with a Rolex part that matches the watch not a problem. If you have a Acrylic crystal then Polywatch paste in a tube will polish the scratch off.

Just get it done at RSC, and your fine. A new acrylic from them is just as good as the original

Thanks for the knowledgeable info!! It is a sapphire crystal, so polishing it out sounds like it is not an option. Does anybody know if they will let me keep the original crystal? It is nice to know I won't regret changing the crystal in 30 years if the watch becomes a collectible (it is a sub LV).
