I would have to disagree here. On the stainless Submariner, I understand why PCL's don't belong: sand, coral, rocks, etc. But the GMT2C, still a tool watch, was meant to be strapped on the wrist of a pilot/traveler, not a diver. It isn't exposed to the same types of elements as the Sub. So why not add a touch of class to the GMT2C by borrowing some of the elegance from the Daytona and Precious metal variants? To each their own, but I love the PCL's.

The pcl's on my GMT II c were all scratched up within a month of daily wear. Once I had them brushed though, minor scratches and swirl marks are hardly visible.

I love the look of the brushed CL! but i wont be touching mine. when i purchased mine at the "flagship" rolex store (barron and leeds) here in southern california, i jokingly asked the sales person (who was wearing a sea dweller) what would happen if i got the center links polished, and he basically told me that it would negate the warranty (probably just trying to deter me doing any type of mods), then i asked him if Rolex would re-polish the bracelet after ive dinged it up, and even then he said they wouldn't because it would be removing material, and that the dings gives the watch character.
:) just my two cents. i like the watch either way. |

Below is what mine looked like after the brushing. I had my AD do it before I even had the watch sized for my wrist. I love the way the bracelet looked without the PCL's.

I believe your AD either was blowing sunshine up your nether regions, or doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. The Rolex watchmaker at my AD buffed mine before I left the store, and said it would cost ~$60 to bring the center link back to polished if I changed my mind later on.

Has anybody sent their watches to a RSC for warrantee or any other kind of service after polishing out CLs on any Rolex watch with PCLs?? Were you refused service or did they insist on restoring the bracelet back to the original spec, or no problem??

Very happy with my brushed PCL on my GMT IIc
I wore my PCL GMT IIc for 3 days and knew right away that I had to have my PCL brushed (for all the reasons mentioned). I too believe Rolex made a mistake putting PCLs on the SS model of the GMT IIc. My opinion is that it is a marketing strategy to differentiate the GMT IIc from the Sub so that you would want to buy both models.
At some point in the future, I believe Rolex will move back to a more conservative stance and have brushed CL bracelets on future SS GMTs. I'm not sure if too many owners will then have their brushed center links polished. Things will change and come full circle again and again...some of us are thinking into the future or into the past and achieving the same result - Brushed Center Links for the SS GMT. |

i prefer PCLs.. they look more classy with PCLs.
why don't i hear many complaints about Daytona's PCL bracelets? It is also a tool watch after all, like the GMT. Is it just because ppl are just too used to all brushed in the old GMT, and resist change? And also probably because GMT is a brother to Sub, and so it has to look like the Sub, including the bracelet? I am a newbie and i love the PCL

Going with it
My PCLs are getting scratched, but I'm leaving it go, I'm OK with PCLs.

I like the brushed look myself. You can always get it polished again if you want. MY AD told me that you can use a scotch bright pad to remove polish and give a brushed look or 300+ sand paper. I later found out he is so good with metal working he makes swords and knives.
