When The 16610 Came Out.....
What did you think?
With all the talk about the new Sub, I wonder what you guys that have been wearing before the days of forums thought about the new watch when it came out. I realize we have a different departure this time, but it still leaves me curious about your perspectives on previous changes. Being into this only a few years my perspective lends nothing to any such discussion, but I really enjoy hearing from you veterans out there. I love the new watch although I haven't been able to warm up to the new case's lug size. Perhaps in time I will. Looking forward to your answers.

Well basically the sub has changed very little over the past 40 plus years sure there has been a few movement changes over the years, but case has changed very little. The 16610 was introduced 1988/9 again very similar to the rest of the past subs. The only changes to the 16610 over the 22 years was a SEL bracelet a LEC and few minor fonts.Myself much prefer the classic style case over the new type case .And the ceramic insert might look good but functions the same as the aluminium. Some say its a upgrade perhaps it is, but at a upgrade price. The new clasp might prove a plus over the one on the old sub, but time will only tell on that one.Maxi dial yes I like the maxi dial but prefer the vintage maxi style without the gold surrounds.

I honestly didn't notice the difference between the 16800 and the 16610 when it was launched.
The Sub-c seems a very radical cosmetic departure from the 16610 compared to the time when the 16610 superseded the 16800 and even the 1680. The larger case, ceramic insert, and upgraded clasp happened all at once, and are far less subtle than the crystal upgrade from 1680 to 16800 and the WG dial upgrade was done within the same 16800 reference.

I also find the maxi dial without the gold surrounds to bé a better fit for the subs..

When the 16610 came out, WIS were still complaining about those "newfangled" Subs with their sapphire crystals..........
25 years later and those same guys are still unable to accept sapphire... Probably will be a like number unable to accept ceramic................

I was one of those who didn't accept the new looks of the Sub C. Perhaps like many here, we are loyal to the current look of the Sub. But I would add that having see more pictures of the Sub C, it starts to grow on me... Well, if only the price can be more attractive

its a very good question , id never actually thought of it like that , but as mentioned , the changes were far less dramatic , evolution , not revolution
