My first 5513; my lesson on using TRF as a resource; thanks everyone

Below are picks of the 5513 I got yesterday. First pick is the one from the seller. The second is the 5513 in its new home.

For me, this one is a keeper. I have had it thoroughly checked by an authorized repair person who tells me that it appears 100% original in excellent condition and running within specs.

I want to thank all the TRF members that helped educate me so that I could make this purchase.

This should be a lesson to newbies (like me) about how this forum can work for you.

I started with zero knowledge of 5513's. So I decided to see what I could find out here.

When I posted pics on the watch out forum, I received enough replies to know that the case, dial and bezel appeared correct. I also got a good idea of a fair price.

An article in the vintage forum gave me enough info to make sure the case markings and shoulders were indicative of a genuine case.

When I posted questions in the vintage forum, I learned how the bezel was supposed to work, what movement should be in an R series, and that it should be a hacking movement.

When I sent a private message to a member who lives in the same town as the seller, he was able to give me a first hand report because he had been to the seller's shop and seen the watch.

As a last measure, I posted the seller's name in the buyers/sellers who's who to see if there were any members with issues. There were none and I felt good about going ahead.

I really appreciate everyone's help. TRF is simply packed with members who have a lot of knowledge and are willing to share. What a great forum.

Now the pics.

That is a great looking watch.

What do you mean by "sent an e-mail to a member in the same town" ?

I thought you said you went in to his shop and tried it on?

Thanks Nicko. Have you gotten the sawdust out of your 5513? Rolex should use you in their advertisements!

Ha ha ha...Yeah, good to go...That's the first and last time I use a $5000 vintage watch to cut wood on the ranch!

It's on its way back to me from Steve Mulholland with a new Superdome and faded Fat Font! Should be here in the next few days....

But it was cool!

Let me know how you like the superdome. I am considering.
