Brushed or polished? That is the question

I'm in the process of selling my 1961 Oysterdate 6694.
I had it polished some time ago and it is smooth all over, except for the rivetted bracelet which is brushed steel.
I have been told that the uppermost face of the lugs should be brushed steel rather than simply polished.
My watch didn't look to me as though it had ever been polished before and it was smooth all over, otherwise I would have had the brushed finish on the lugs.
Whilst I have seen models with the lugs in the brushed finish I am trying to find out if mine should be or not.
Does anyone know if there was a date when the lugs were changed from plain to brushed, or were they always brushed...or what?
I look forward to your comment with breath of the bated kind.....
