I noticed on the two Rolex watches in our family that the brushed finish on the top of the lugs is quite course looking.

Obviously, this is the style Rolex uses and is not poor finishing but compared to other brands it looks a bit rough.

Any reason why they don't use a satin-type brushing like they do on the bracelets? The contrast on the tops of the lugs is quite noticeable compared to the endlink.

My ExplorerII's lugs look exactly the same with your DJ's lugs..But my GMTIIc's lugs are satin look finished you mentioned above and they feel really classy..The look between two watches' lugs are really different..I think new generation Rolexes will have that satin look you were talkin' about..

I like the older course look. The new brushing is also north-south rather than the old angled direction.

Yes, the new Rolex (GMTIIC, DJII, new Expl I) have a more accurate satin finish on the lugs ...

I always figured that the old brushed pattern was circular based on the center of the case. I kinda like the older pattern.

I have the older pattern but it matches the bracelet pretty well.

I'd post pics but I have yet to come up with anything as crisp as the OP's.
