Ka Hibs (Hilbero)

I did a trade with Ka Hibs. He sent me a Cartier Santos 100 XL and paypaled $900 for my Rolex 16710. His references seemed to be fine. Papers matched the watch. The watch looked legit. I typically don't do international deals. But, everything looked legit. He is a member on this forum and another watch forum. Communication was constant prior to me sending the watch. He sent the watch, and the waatch looked fine. From the outside, everything looked ok. I was paypaled $900 and received $860 after fees. I asked that I recoup the $40 in fees, and he said he would pay after he received the Rolex. Fair enough I said.

In my haste and not doing my full due diligence of inspecting the movement(I had a business trip I was preparing for and was pre-occupied) I sent the Rolex, and he acknowledged receipt. After I got back from my trip, I put on the Cartier. Everything seemed fine. I took off the watch in the evening, and the next morning the watch had stopped. I looked at and saw the watch stopped at 5:20. I had taken the watch off around 10pm the night before. Given there was no date on the watch, the watch either had 8 hours of power reserve or 20 hours of reserve - still less than I would expect as this watch typically provides 36 hours.

I took the watch to a friend who knows Cartier in and out this morning. He opened the watch, and unequivocally said the movemtn was fake. To confirm, I took the Santos to the Cartier dealer in Topanga Canyon and they agreed the watch was a fake. The remarkable thing was the watch is an amazing copy as the outside looks completely legit. Just a word of caution for anyone who is dealing with Ka Hibs. I have emailed him about the movement/authentcity and have yet to receive a response.

Please tread with caution when dealing with Ka Hibs/Hilbero. I have been selling/trading watches for 8 years and have been duped which is embarassing to admit. I take blame for not doing enough due diligence and want to make sure others are careful.

I will wait for a response, but don't expect to. The serial number on my Rolex GMT is F267459. I will contact Rolex to note that this was stolen.

I made a foolish mistake and should have had the watch checked out prior to sending. I compared the watch to an authentic Cartier Santos 100 XL and the fake was a little larger by a hair. But, without opening the watch, one could not tell by holding the watch. It's a bit embarassing, frankly. But, you would like to think people are honest and upfront about the watches. I showed the Cartier sale rep, and he said the papers looked identical to what he sells. He actually said this was one of the better fakes he had ever seen.

Regardless, here is warranty papers on my Rolex that was sent to Ka Hibs. If anyone sees this watch floating around, please let me know. I will give a reward for anyone who can find it or knows anything about the whereabouts. I've contacted Rolex and they have listed as a stolen watch. Thanks again!

Make a police report asap for theft by deception. This way your watc will be listed as stolen correctly. Was it insured?

Was not insured. I had owned the watch for 4 months (pre-owned) and didn't include on my policy. Trust me, I definitely should have known better. I was not thinking in this deal. I've done 2 deals in the Phillipines before, and they were flawless.

Update - Ka Hibs

All too often we forget that it is really easy to get scammed. In fact, simply having references isn't just good enough. That was a lesson for me.

So, after my original post earlier this week, I received an email from Ka Hibs or Angelina Sevilla (let's call him/her KA from here on out). After much negotiation and discussion, it was evident that KA was troubled that I plastered the forums with my experience and how I received a fake. KA understood his/her name was tarnished. KA did not resist my claims that the watch was fake and wanted to work out a solution. Per KA, he/she did not know the Cartier was fake. KA had mentioned that he/she was out of town, and could not send back the Rolex in a timely fashion. Therefore, we agreed on a monetary settlement to satisfy both parties for the time being.

In return, I promised to retract my post as KA felt that his/her name was being tarnished. Given that a monetary settlement was reached and I have received the funds, I will give the benefit of the doubt that it was an honest mistake and not because the posts about being scammed were the motivation for the settlement. KA had said that he will try to return the watch (which I prefer) when he gets back, and I have agreed to return the watch and all funds remitted to make all parties whole.

I commend KA for doing the right and finding a solution where he could have easily ran and hid. Though I am not totally whole, I feel this settlement is the works for the time being.

Regardless, I just want to say the watch community is very small. You are as good as yoru last deal, and treat each person you deal with respect and dignity. Always buy the seller!

Thanks for all your help!
