Icon1 question about two tone Submariner

I received a two tone model # 16613 with Black face. Did Rolex ever manufacture this model without the two tone clasp? My band is two tone except for the clasp which I suspect was changed. The model year is 2000 and it has the luminescent markers.

Hi & welcome,

I believe your TT Sub with a total stainless clasp is correct for its year, it was a couple of years after that they introduced the TT clasp. I'm sure that one of the guys will be along to be more specific.

I wouldn't give it a moments concern, the gold on the TT clasp is only plated and in lots of ways (especially as they're no longer being produced) yours looks better, enjoy your TT Sub in good health.

Yes, the earlier TT Subs didn't have TT clasp. I can't remember when this changed, but it was around 2002+.

I just read a post by JJ where he said that earlier (pre 2000 something) had all steel clasps.

Yes, it has lug holes in the case but, hgas the luminescent number markers, which I bvelieve were added late '99. I just thought all two tones Subs had the two tone all around the bracelet. I am actually glad to have the stainless clasp as it is the most vulnerable place for scratching and is harder than gold.

Thnaks for all the help................

And one question now if I will buy a Rolex Blue TT will all yellow parts be gold except the clasp? and is clasp not gold just plate? It s shame to sell a watch for 7800 USD and still some plated parts.

Aykun,

A new TT Blue Sub will have the gold running through the clasp. The gold on the clasp is NOT plated - all solid 18 K gold fused with the steel below.

Anything YELLOW on any Rolex is always 18 K gold - NEVER plated!!

Thank you JJ it could make me change my all ideas about ROLEX I feel better now,I will wear my Blue TT as much as I live so I dont want the clasp worn and torn and yellow of gold to become white of steel as most of the cheap plated watches.

Hold on a minute... mine is a 93 and has luminescent markers... this doesn't make sense...

I called a friend/jeweler in the NY Jewelry Exchange. The TT Submariner two tone clasp was initiated in 2003.
